Default 2310 Experience

Hello all,

I have owned a 2310 Hi-Lo for a whole week now and thought I would share some impressions. We bought the unit in Wisconsin and towed it home to southeast Iowa, about 300 miles. It towed very nicely behind my 07 Dakota Quad Cab (4.7 4WD utilizing an Equalizer hitch) and delivered 14.5 MPG for part of the trip. Southern Wis. is rather hilly, requiring plenty of throttle at times so I was very happy with the towability. Other than losing a trim ring somewhere it was and uneventful trip.
We owned (and traded in) a very clean 1707 Hi-Lo so we have an idea what to expect from the unit. We gained a good deal of usable room (headroom and width) as well as storage and separate sleeping and lounging areas. The bathroom seems more than adequate and the galley kitchen seems well laid out. Fit and finish seems typical of Hi-Lo (one door came apart and is being repaired) but on par with other brands we have looked at.
The biggest question mark would be the front window. It is made of Lexan and already shows some heavy swirls and scratching. The standard tank cover had marred the window from bouncing around during delivery to Wisconsin from Ohio (thanks for the heads-up JMDoering) so it was removed for the trip home and a fiberglass replacement was ordered. I am soliciting advice about the best way to clean and polish the window (Novus cleaner/polisher sounds promising).
We leave this weekend for a quick trip to Door County, Wi. and will be able to visit with our dealer on the way home if any problems should arise. So, back to packing!
Jeff

Congrats on the new 2310H. We did about the same thing as you, we traded our 1705T and a 2007 Fleetwood Sun Valley popup for the 2310H. We had a similar problem with the front window being marred by the tank cover after traveling about 160 miles. The new style cover design doesn't allow enough room for the window to stay clear of the cover, also the power front jack sticks back further than the standard hand jack making things worse. With the design of the front cap and window about six inches of clear front space has been lost. When raising and lowering the top the cover is pinched between the power jack and the fiberglass front cap and scratches are appearing on the cap below the window. As you stated, don't use the cover anytime except when you have the trailer set up.

Hi-Lo has agreed to replace the tank cover with the optional fiberglass cover and to also replace the window. I sent them photos showing our problem and they saw where the clearance was minimal and/or non-existent.

Default Hello RichR,

Hello,
I just realized you gave me the tip on the tank cover issue with the 2310. Thank you! What procedure did you use when dealing with the factory about the marring and scratching (through the dealer or did you talk to someone directly at the factory)? I would at least like find out where Hi-Lo stands on the problem.

I dealt strictly with the dealer. At his direction I took the photos and emailed them to him and to Hi-Lo. He then was in communications with them about it. They said there had been a similar complaint turned in with a 2810 but they didn't understand what was wrong until they saw my photos.

They said for me to not use the cover anytime other than when the trailer is set up and they offered to replace the window and to supply a new fiberglass tank cover which is not as big as the standard cover. I will take the cover but I have reservations about replacing the window. I may take it and put it into storage for sometime in the future when the present cover may happen to get broken or really screwed up.

You should be entitled to an adjustment as well. It would be best to go through your dealer even though the company knows about the problem. Let him do the footwork with the proper people at Hi-lo.

I got the fiberglass tank cover and it fits much better and doesn't come close to the window. When the top is down there is about 1 1/2" clearance between the cover and the front cap. It looks nicer, too.

Hello All,
I am still awaiting my new bottle cover for my 2310; glad to hear it should work well with the new design. My dealer is handling the scratched widow issue with Hi-Lo so I can be patient. They (Jerry's Camping Center in Madison, WI) have been good in all our dealings so far and I trust they will continue to do so. They are a long-time family owned and run dealership specializing in pop-ups and travel trailers (over 50 years), with a nice lad back vibe.
We really enjoyed our first outing (to Door County) and are looking forward to a western swing this fall. Maybe the Badlands and Devils Tower before heading into Colorado. The floor plan seemed to work well for us and it was nice to get up in the morning and have coffee at the dinette without breaking down the bed. (Our biggest niggle with our 1707) We are working on storage ideas and the wire shelving and plastic drawer unit sounds interesting-we also would like to be able to hang large bath towels in the shower somehow.
I have a carpenter working on enlarging my garage doors as I type. We are able to go to 10' wide by 7'6" high without major renovation to the soffit or roof line. Combined with the PowerCaster PC-3 which arrived this week believe my storage issue is settled.

Jeff,

We hang our bath towels in the shower on a double coat hook that we found at a local hardware store. We fold the towels over a plastic hanger and hang on the hook.

We just screwed the hook into the wood framing on the rear wall of the trailer in the shower.
