Brand New Hi-Lo

Hi Everybody! We tent camped and canoe/boat camped for 20 years. Loved it then. We moved on to renting, and tried out travel trailers, tent trailers and cabins. That was not quite "it". After that we went through 2 truck campers. found it fun but that was not "it" either. Then I found a telescoping trailer called a Tow-Low. We bought it used. It towed like a dream. No more semi-truck coming up panic. We could pull into any camp site, any-where! The weather made no difference. Bring on the thunder storms, wind and let er rip. This was "it". No more "what if it's ok rubber roof? No more "whats the weather and wind forecast"? Well the Tow-Low has some years on it now. And they are out of business. I went for a demo on a Trailmanor. I was so dissapointed that we started using hotels. Then I started shopping for a Hi-Lo. As usual I go look at a new unit and walk away waiting for a better unit or better deal. We have shopped for a new camper for a year now. Then Hi-Lo goes out of business. It's now or never. I found a 2011 Hi-Lo, 2311H. This time I didn't walk away. I bought a Hi-Lo for a price I still don't believe. I have drooled over the Hi-Lo trailers at the camp-sites. Talked to the owners and walked away from a sale so many times. So, Hi Everybody I'm now a Hi-Lo owner.

Welcome welcome to the club. I have seen a new hi-lo on a lot and they sure look purdy. I hope yours proves to be "it" for you and not just another step along the way.

Congrats, great choice. We enjoy hi-lo trailers and I'm already making modifications to our newer towlite, can't wait for the next camping season.

New Hi Lo owner

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on your new HiLo. Last we heard someone had bought all the patents for HiLo and they were making Prototypes over the winter 2012. Haven't had any updates.

I am brand new to this forum. I am looking for more information about Hi-Lo trailers--floor plans, specifications, prices, dealers, etc. I am located in the Memphis, TN area. Can anyone help. Also, for btgorman, what happened that was so bad with the Trailmanor? I am considering one. Thanks to all.

campthewestcoast 01-27-2012 10:21 PM

Dstrand,

In the reference section there are a number of brochures for Hi-Lo by year.

Also, I suspect your best bet for price and dealer locations would be trailers for sale on oodle. Hi-Lo went bankrupt in 2010, so there are only a limited number of "new" trailers available.

BT Gorman,

Howdy neighbor! We have a 2406 T and live just down the road from you in Fredericksburg. This is the third Hi Lo we have owned and enjoyed trouble free [almost] service over the years. Just bought a used one last year and aside from replacing the awning, and getting ready to rubberize the roof, we have used it three times already and plan on a 6-week trip to Colorado in July-August this year. If you are in our neighborhood, give us a call, we are in the directory. If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Welcome to the Hi Lo Forum. A lot can be learned here. Good luck with your new Hi Lo.

OOPs! Just noticed you are in Austin, MN., not Texas. Sorry. The Hi Lo we bought was a repossessed model from Minnesota. I still offer a Texas Welcome to a Minnesota 'friend'.

BTGorman, welcome to the board, funny thing is that I bought my 86 hilo from a gentleman in Austin last May for $800 :D

WOW lots of info.

I have been looking for an economical means of camping and stumbled on Hi Lo trailers. We could tow with a Dodge Caravan (02) or Saturn Vue (06) or my husband has a Silverado (02). I just want something light but safe and would like to see one of these units before deciding. This forum helps alot and has leaned me in this direction despite the company being oob. Would any of you suggest a private owner or dealer. Not sure a dealer could offer much of warranty at this point. Please advise. Thanks SLJ

campthewestcoast 02-11-2012 01:50 PM

Shasha,

Where are you located? There may be a hi-lo owner near you that would let you take a look at his trailer.

I would not be concerned about purchasing a hi-lo from a private party or a dealer. What would concern me is whether the side framing of the particular Hi-lo you are considering is wood or metal. We recently had to replace our older hi-lo because the wall framing became too soft and all the upper walls on the trailer pretty needed to be rebuilt.

Welcome Shasha to the forum.

We bought a 19 ft 2008 Hi-Lo last fall on consignment at a dealer here in Arkansas. They did a inspection of the unit before we bought and the cables snapped on second camping trip. Also the heater did not get tested properly cause it was in the 90's outside.

They paid half for the cable replacement (800.00) but I paid for all the furnace repair (500.00).

We love the unit. It tows easy and the mileage on my Ford F150 truck went from 10mpg to 15mpg compared to my other 5000lb 21 ft travel trailer I am trying to sell.

So buy a Hi-Lo, but as with any travel trailer (new or used) a lot can be wrong with them.

Happy shopping

Ray

New to the forum, looking for a HiLo

Welcome to the forum, shasta. Tell us where you are located. Perhaps someone will live close by and can show you their unit. Start by going in the library section of this forum and seeing the different years, layouts. Do you want to buy a leftover new one or a used one. Look at the manuals for your vehicles and figure out your tow ratings. Two types of HI Lo. The classic are the heavier models and you will find them used. Towlites are lighter weight. Dealers that have leftover units on the lot will not be able to gove you any kind of warranty as HiLo is out of business. The newer models are lighter weight and would be something like this 18 2010H.18ft. year 2010 . Dealers usually charge more, however you may get a deal because they have been sitting around. Watch out for lot rot9bad roof). The main things to watch out for in a used unit are delaminated walls and any water leaks in the walls or roofs. Check the caqbles for rusted areas and frayed ready to snap cables. WWW.NADA guides.com will give you prices and features. We are here to help you and answer all your questions.

Just now saw your post. At one time we lived in San Antonio. Hope to run into to you some time. Maybe the 2013 Rally?

Is there any way to determine that short of taking off a section of the wall?
