Cable and more

Hi All

Has anyone replaced this wood block with a metal piece ? My one side the wood block has rotted out .. or put wood back in?

As for the cable replacement I read pdf and all suggestions . But if best to feed cable down through the wall starting at top and having that end with bolt on it already set up .. the threaded rod end won’t go through pulleys so how to terminate and add adjustment threaded rod ? I saw adding an eye hook than threaded rod .

The man who wrote the pdf cut the threaded rod end off ? So even with a set of cables sent made up you still have to cut one end or the other to actually feed the cable through the pulleys and up through walls ?

Next up can I span the bottom of the top edge with something more sturdier than the flimsy cap so the cable rides on something stronger ?

Wood replacement

I have a 2003 24ft. HiLo. The right front wood was rotted as well. It's a common problem as the right front window hole was cut too large in the bottom corner and thus leaked water below it. I did 2 things. 1 - build up the window hole so the window could seal. 2 - replaced the block of wood with a piece of redwood cut to size. There is a series in the forum where someone had the same issues. He took a lot of pictures doing the work. I to replaced the four lifting cables as well. It was just a matter of raising it up and placing 4X4's on the edge and releasing the tension on the cables. You cut them on top, pull them through and then feed them back up. I bought the cable crimping tool on ebay and was good to go.
