Refer Fan

Hello, I have a 2008 Hi Lo 2808C that has a switch on the panel for (Refer fan). The refrigerator is a.Dometic RM 2554. I cannot locate a fan under the outside cover or in the fridge. No fan located in the roof either. The switch used to light up but not now. I've checked fuses and they all appear ok. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!

The fan only runs when the fridge is turned on and the rear compartment is warmed up over 100 degrees. There is a button type thermostat that controls it and is in line with the power wires. The fan is usually located in the area above the lower vent cover in the area of the cooling fins.

I have a 2007, it did not have a fan but did have the rocker switch. I just installed a large PC case fan. I have also learned that over filling the freezer section will cause it to not cool so make sure air can flow adequately. I also installed a small CPU fan inside to circulate air.

Thank you Wolfster101. What exactly is this PC fan and where did you install it? Was it in the access panel on the outside of the camper?

Here's a bit of help. At the top of the page, click on "search". Type in "sushi mod". click on the third post down--this will answer all questions about the refer fan and the cure for the noise and operation. Parts avail cheap from amazon and elsewhere. Disclaimer! (I've no affiliation with amazon.)

I too only saw a rocker switch. I was also concerned as I didn't hear any fan noise and didn't visually see a fan anywhere. I normally have the AC on for the fridge and as of late I noticed the unit is not getting as hot. I took off the outside upper and lower panel and light up in between the halves with a flash light and boom there it was! I have to research how to access it but it's definitely not working.

PC means personal computer. I installed it on the coils accessible by the panel outside the refer.

The rear fan for the refrigerator has a small, 1 Amp inline fuse that may be blown if the fan is not working. The fuse is in the same compartment as the fan.

If you've taken off the panel that is held on with about a million screws, the fan should be easily accessible. It's the panel on the upper half of the trailer as I recall.

I thought I'd responded back to you but I do not see it in these exchanges. Nevertheless I appreciate your input and will pull the upper panel off to have a look. I guess I didn't want to take out all those screws. Sorry for my delay. Dick

Thank you Treeclimber. Very informative and a lot of help. I'll refer back to this when I get time to work on it.

Thank you Thatguy. With all the great responses I'm getting now I am sure I can make the necessary repairs or add an additional fan.

Thank you JackandJanet.

I guess I was too lazy to take off the upper panel because of all the screws. I will do this soon and.see if the fuse is the issue. It almost sounds like the more fans the better to increase efficiency Again I appreciate your response. I notice you and Janet have a lot of experience with Hi Lo campers.

Yeah, that's an apt description of it! :)

Mine had chicken wire under the panel. Then I got to the toy fan.

The OEM fans in the trailer are really pathetic, aren't they?
