has anyone changed hand lift crank to using an electric? looks like it would be easier to use. they are pricy. Bulldog brand looks like it would work. I have read about some brands breaking quickly.

We are on our second HiLo with an electric tongue jack. At first I didn't want one but our dealer said we should have one. Now I see what he meant. I'm not getting any younger and the jack doesn't get any easier to crank. The electric jack makes it so much easier especially when lifting the tongue to get the weight bars snapped up. Ours is an Atwood and it works very well. It comes with a crank just in case the battery goes dead.

Ours is an Atwood too. It's a lot easier to press a switch and watch it go up and down without risking a shoulder injury. I don't know about other power jacks, but the Atwood comes with a bright light which helps a lot when you're past dark-thirty and trying to setup.

I converted to an electric jack last year and bought a Parker VIP 3000# off the internet. The cost plus shipping was around $195. It was very easy to change out and I am very pleased with its performance and appearance. It includes a balance bubble and night light that is very handy.

Just referenced my catalog from my HiLo dealer. Four brands of power jacks were listed. We have had our on the HiLo for twelve years. We put a new one on when we got the trailer and have never had any trouble. We just pop the cover on the top and check to see if it needs to be greased yearly. This is per the maintenance instructions. Search the internet for the best price. I have seen them on sale. I think Harbor freight even carries one. Get one that is the right weight to lift your trailer. Highly recommend one,a real shoulder and back saver.

Just a thought,maybe you could look on craigs list. I saw a listing forsome one that was tearing a motor home apart and selling things like AC ect. I hear you about trying to save a little $. Got a little saved and then something always breaks like the suspension on our HiLo.

An electric tongue is one of the best additions you can make, and one of the easiest changes you can do.

Getting a new Barker VIP 3000 jack was the 1st thing I did after buying my HiLo.

This is the next mod I am going to do. You can't go wrong. I'm looking into the Barker VIP 3000.

Don't forget to check the weight of the electric one vs the manual. That'll affect your tongue weight either more or less, probably more. Ours is an Atwood and has been problem free for three years.

Has anyone used the Husky Brute jack or heard anything about it? I really like the ball screw setup with less friction, but I'm not sure it'll make a huge difference since it won't be up a down a bunch. Price seems reasonable, though.

one of husky brutes does not have a drop down leg, which could make it nec. to use blocks. can't find any comments, am still looking for a jack ,but am concerned about reliability & price

I do not know anything about the husky brute but I do know I am very satisfied with the Barker VIP Jack which has the same weight rating and it does have a good reputation. You might shop around and find a better deal but here is where I bought ours for just a few dollars more:
