Anyone using a Dodge Cummings to tow with. Son-in-law is looking at a 2005 Dodge truck that he says has a 5.9 Cummings engine. Any comments on that truck?

No personal experience, but it's a full-sized half-ton pickup and should do fine.

Actually if it is a cummins then it is a 3/4 or one ton, more then enough truck for any hi-lo that was ever made. Probably enough truck for just about ANY travel trailer or 5th wheel made. The 2005 was a pretty good year. Later the cummins got bigger and had more emissions crappie on them so their feul economy suffered. Before 2003 they were better economy buy the much noisier versions and we're in the older body style with little cabs.

I towed my 85 25'classic home with a 2007 2500 (3/4ton) 5.9 Cummins for about 300 miles and hardly felt the HiLo back there. Just had a straight hitch without equalizer or any sway hardware and don't believe I will need any. The 25' classic with rear door seems to have enough weight on the tongue and light rear to keep sway down. I also had a quite tight fitting hitch to ball connection which I think helped also. Have a trip planned to Texas (from St.Louis area) in October so will see how things pull when fully loaded.

The manual recommends a WDH.

I towed a 2807C with a 2006 Dodge 3500 dually (Mega cab and dual rear wheels) that had a 5.9 Cummins and manual tranny - never a problem and great MPG. Later, we bought a 2011 Dodge Crew Cab 2500 with a larger Cummins with auto tranny. Again, without any problems whatsoever but, lower MPG. GOD Bless! Bob

Getting around 17.5 to 18 mpg pulling my 2208 towlite with a 2007 6.7 cummins with the emissions crap removed. Absolutely no need for a WDH.

With that truck the limiting factor will always be your receiver hitch, not the truck. Overkill, and you will find that the truck's mirrors are there to make sure you are still towing something, lol.
18-20 mpg possible on my 5.9 tuned.

Had a 03 auto 2500 5.9 towed 29f Mobil Scout TT many mile from tx coast to pacific coast..and Mt in between..Towed like a dream..MPG mostly 10-11

cva34, 9-13 is normal for a full height trailer on that 5.9. What did you see on a HILO?
