GMC Canyon duramax

Am I the only one drooling over wanting this mid sized diesel?
Rumor has it Toyota might be dropping a diesel Tacoma in 18 so I'm holding off for a bit.

There are plenty drooling on the Colorado Canyon forums. As for me, I'm not interested in a diesel car/pickup for a variety of reasons.

I have the Colorado with 6 cyl. and it will do the same thing a diesel does for $4,000 cheaper. That's a lot of gas I can buy. It pulls our high-low and get 19 mpg. at highway speeds.

Nissan came out with a "1/2 ton" with a diesel- as has Dodge. Seems like a neat idea until you realize you can get a larger maximum towing capacity and, PAYLOAD, with an ECOBOOST 6 cylinder with the big towing package. And I agree- figure out the difference in gas (cost) vs the cost of diesel and premium payed for that engine. The drool tends to turn into a "choke". :) If I was going to spend the money for a light weight truck with diesel performance at altitude- I would find a good used ecoboost. :)

Diesel truck

I would be leary about buying a first year anything. Bought a brand new car and it had a change from previous years. Turned out to be a lemon and even had a class action lawsuit. Lesson learned even if consumer reports rated this car good. Sold the car for $150.00 to my mechanic with only 80.000 miles on it. It would break down two to three times a week. AAA acused me of not maintaining it because it frequently had to be towed. Volkswagon Rabbit. Vowed I would never give them any of my $/business again.

I wanted a Ram Ecodiesel but they are still expensive and rare used, at least the RAM can be had with the diesel in a basic trim. The GM mini diesel can only be had in the top trims right now. The difference between it and the gas is not ability to tow but the improved feul economy while towing or not. Many gas owners can't even get the EPA rating while many diesel owners beat the EPA rating. The turbo also helps with any power losses non-turbo motors suffer with altitude gains. I have a 5.7 Hemi and it gets at best 18 mpg while many Ecodiesel owners are getting 30 mpg. In my 140,000 miles with the Hemi I could have saved over $7000 with the diesel and I bet my resale would be higher now as well. I'm not interested in the GM as much because I want to be able to seat 6.

Now the RAM is on hold because the EPA has a bug in their pants for diesels lately and Fiat failed to disclose some situations where the Ecodiesel may change tunes to prevent damaging itself. Different then the VW thing but to the general public the damage is done. Maybe the new administration can help in that there is really no reason for a fine as no damage has been done. The tunes would have been approved they just didn't say pretty please ahead of time.
