Default towing question's

I'm the new guy here and I have been looking at trailers.
I fond a 1983 HiLo 16' and DW wants me to say yes to it.
It goes up and down the cables look good not rusted. I added axel grease while under it for the guy. It will need TLC like me.

My TV is a 01' Ford Explorer Sport Tarc. I could pull up to around 5000 lbs.
My question, what is the hitch weigh of these oldies?

Also should I add a spacer to raise the axel so a larger tire could go on?

There is also some rot at a bottom corner of the front window wood any ideas?

I need a good hitch and planning on getting one and a add another tranni cooler.

Any other ideas of what to check would helpful before I pay for it

thanks

Default Want to buy a HiLo

Wood rot is a big issue. Most likely the wall would have to be torn apart and rebuilt. All the windows would need to be taken out and resealed. How much time and $ do you want to spend? Are you real handy?

Default fixes

Well I think I'm handy I not sure how much rot there is. I should go back over and check it out.
Now this is the front window over the hitch. That's the top of the hilo.

I did check other spots didn't notice when I was tapping or banging the walls and around the roof inside and out.

Have you ever seen go rot maybe its rot go? was made n used on boats?

I was thinking if its only the area by that corner of the window and not much more maybe that would work as a quick fix. Until I have the time to open the inside of that rear wall.

thanks for your info always, I'm grateful to have others give their views and no how.
