Default Trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons from Michigan

We finally made it, what a great trip, lots of wildlife and beautiful land. One day we woke up to a bison eating out of fire pit in the campsite behind us and 4 mule deer in the evening in the campsite across from us. We fly fished the Yellowstone, Lamar, & Slough Creek in Yellowstone and the Fox Creek in Montana. We hiked to the top of Mt. Washburn and to Artist Point on the south rim of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. We ended our trip in the Tetons in Colter Bay campground, we were setting up the camper and a cow Elk walked through our site about 12 feet from our picnic table, we kayaked on String lake and hiked to Hidden Falls. Weather was great and had an incredible vacation.

prowen, your pictures are gorgeous! You certainly accomplished a lot of activities. How long were you there, and how many days in each park? You said that you camped at Colter Bay Campground in Tetons. Where did you camp in Yellowstone? We haven't been since 2012 and want to go back, but the next time with the Hi-Lo and not as many family members.

What Dee said! Hoping to visit both Yellowstone and Tetons next Fall (never been to either one), as well as some other NP's. Thanks for sharing pics!

Beautiful! This is why we camp. To my mind Yellowstone, Teton, and Glacier National Parks are the crown jewels of our NP system. Thanks so much for sharing you trip.

There's one more, Don - visit Rocky Mountain National Park in the northern part of Colorado. You have to be able to hike, and do it around 10,000 ft, but if you can, the scenery is breathtaking. Out of Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Teton, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, and some others, "Rocky" is my favorite.

We were just there the 13-16th camping a Madison junction. Another good bear trip with 5 Grizzly and a big black. The bull elk were bugling back and forth but no fights. We also averaged 14.5 MPG towing there and back so I was very happy with that. We blew a bearing on the trailer on the way back somewhere in the last 2 hours but I didn't notice until back home.

We camped at Canyon campground for 3 nights then up to Soda Butte campground in Montana for a night, Grizzlies in the campground at Soda Butte, told to stay inside for the night by camp host. Then back in Yellowstone to Pebble Creek for 2 nights, Grant Village for 2 nights, then to Colter Bay for 2 nights in the Tetons. Then the long trip back to Michigan. Did a lot of fly fishing and hiking and kayaking in the Tetons at Jenny and String lakes. Beautiful country, worth every mile on the road.
