Default sam hasn't been posting for a while

I suddenly became very ill and had to be hospitalized for nine days. My immune system is weak from the chemotherapy and I picked up a nasty strep infection. It went into my blood stream and thankfully did no damage to my heart. I was taken to surgery and my medication port in my chest was removed to get rid of the source of the infection. After three days I felt well enough to enjoy most of the hospital food. Doing well at home without being woken up every two hrs. at night!! I have RN wound care daily at my home. Prayers appreciated for a full speedy recovery.

know that you are in our prayers, we don't know how lucky we are until we hear about the health concerns of others.

Sam, stay strong as always. You have endured so much and been so brave, we know you will win this battle. Our thoughts are with you in these difficult times.

Sam, that's a heck of a way to get attention! I hope you're back and running soon.

Sam, ditto the other three. Yes, you are in our prayers here in Memphis and I hope that you make a complete recovery, one so complete that you never mention enjoying hospital food again.
While I happen to be having a little fun at the hospital's dietary staff's expense I'll pass this on. Brenda's mother was in a nursing/recovery home for a short period and was being fed one noon by an assistant. I looked at the strained mess on her plate and asked what it might be. The aid stared at it for some time, smelled it, looked us right in the eye and said "Well, I don't rightly know but it certainly is orange isn't it....."
Again, Sam, get with the program and get back to good health!

Hi Sam,

You are in our thoughts and prayers also. Remember, God loved us so much that he sent His only son to die for us, and has a plan for each one of us.

My Mom is dealing with some health issues and is currently in a convalescent hospital in northern California. We are leaving tomorrow to visit her and my son for a few days and will be thinking of you also.

Get well soon!

Sam
If you are feeling well enough to enjoy hospital food, you are still to sick to know any better. (from a retired nurse)

Infections to PIC lines are common and are serious.

Glad you are feeling better. Now get out of the hospital. That is where all of the sick people go. And they love to spread their germs to anyone.

I will have to ditto what Renoites said. If you are enjoying hospital food, you may still be a tad under the weather. But seriously, hope you're doing well and we all look forward to having you back to share
the great advice you share here.

Default Thanks for all the well wishes

My RN wound care Nurse came in today. We are trying to change what we use for wound care and they will only have to come in three times a week. I don't have a pic line, but have had them in the past and had sepsis. I can't go back just forward to better days. Today I called my oncology group and had a discussion how they dropped the ball with my med port flushes. The RN was blaming me(not true). They now have been told the visiting Nurse would have come in with a Drs. referral. Poor discharge planning with my hospitalization earlier this summer.

Default Health report

My measurements of my chest wound keep getting smaller. It has to heal all the way from the inside out. My surgeon says this will take several months. My wound care RN comes in three times a week. Feeling more like my old self. January 21st it will be six months since chemo ended. Thanks for the prayers and concern.

Glad to hear you have improved! I know there were many of us concerned with your absence but unsure if you would feel like responding. So glad you felt well enough to do so.

Had my DR. visit with my surgeon today. She had a huge smile on her face because the chest wound is much smaller and improved from the prior visit two weeks ago. She thinks this is because the loose ineffective sutures were removed at the last visit. Shouldn't be long before my RN no longer needs to make house calls. Christmas present to my self. Looking forward to a much healthier 2015.

Sam, I keep you in my nightly prayers and will continue. My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 bone cancer and has been in remission for awhile. He just celebrated 10 years. He is 83 years old.

I don't post here much these days. My son-in-law has been working long hours and gets every other weekend off which he spends at home with my daughter and my 2 year old grandson. We will be planning to take the 22' Fun Chaser out soon hopefully.

Take care and keep us updated as we enjoy reading and learning from your posts!

Wishing you and your family and all here a 2015 year filled with good health, happiness and many blessings!

Default Doing very well

Happy new year to all. Totally free of all wound care and RN visits. Spending a lot of time getting the house work under control. DH is now retired and helps out. I will have to see all my specialist MDS this year as many visits were put on the back burner. Thanks for all the prayers and good thoughts.
