Default Snyder / Hi-Lo Trailer Population

Don't know if it is reading about some of the Census statistics in the news, or what prompted the following, but I'm curious about how many Hi-Lo trailers (of all models and styles) were manufactured in the 50 year plus history of the Snyder / Hi-Lo Trailer Company?

Have any of you, perhaps while meeting Company owners or executives, at national rallies, or during factory visits, ever heard a number quoted?

The VIN number on our 1969 Bon Voyage is "1915" (yup, that's the whole thing). I've had the thought (but can't substantiate) that that was a sequential count number and could have meant it was the 1,915th trailer built up to that date. In 1969, Snyder was about 12 years into production, so having completed over 1,900 trailers seems both feasible and reasonable.

I don't know when they started sequential serial numbers but our 2310H has 60034 as the last digits of the VIN and a very few were made after that. All the VINs are sequential regardless of model.

Rich,

Okay, sequential numbering makes sense. The last digits of our 2704T is 55430.

RC,

Could yours actually be 55570?

So that means Hi-Lo manufactured, on average, about 1300 trailers per year. Very possible, although neither the old plant, or new, seemed big enough for that production volume. But one could also say that about the Ford F150 assembly plant at The Rouge in Detroit: Its not always about the size of the building, it all about the rate you push them out!

JM,

Just reverified. 55557. No 0 at the end.

RC,
Thanks. Your 5th digit confirms the sequential VIN number count that Rich wrote about. In your earlier post you had me scratching my head when you listed a four digit number.

That brings up the question if there are gaps in the serial numbers. Our 1705 and 2310 did not have a big gap in the numbers. When Hi-Lo still had its website and you could go to dealers' inventory listings the trailers always had the last five digits listed and there were no gaps in the number regardless of model numbers. There may been gaps from one model year to the next but they didn't appear to be large.

I suppose a call to JR Repair could answer the question. But that is like looking at the instructions before finishing the project.
