Default Storing an RV While Traveling

I'm already planning to get out of cold weather for a month in January-February 2015. We got caught short this past winter. It was the coldest winter I have experienced in the low country of South Carolina in a long time. I know, I know, we're pansies compared to you guys and gals in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, New York, etc. when it comes to tolerating cold weather. But people living down here have thin blood and low tolerance. Getting to the point, we've been given the opportunity to occupy a condo on Fort Lauderdale Beach for a week the last part of January 2015. However, we want to tow our Hi-Lo down to the Keys and the Everglades and camp the rest of our time down there. But we need to safely store the Hi-Lo for the week we are in the condo. No RVs are allowed in the condo parking facilities. It would be greatly appreciated if someone who lives in that neck of the woods in Florida or someone who has solved this problem before could give us advice regarding safe storage for a week. I know that a lot of people park their RVs prior to taking cruises out of Florida, but where do they safely park them?

Dee,

This is quite common with full-time RVers. They store the RVs for a while while they fly home. Some friends do this and told me that they usually search on the web for the city or county name plus the words, RV storage. They also call private campgrounds in the area. Some private campgrounds have a dedicated storage area and others are often willing to store an RV in an unused area of their property.

Raul, thanks for your help. I was hoping someone on the forum living in the area might make a good recommendation of the name of a specific place or a good recommendation from an RVer who had traveled down the peninsula of Florida and used a storage place for a short time. Probably, I could solicit recommendations from a lot of full timers on RV.net.

Dee, Kozy Kampers, 3631 West Commerce will suit your needs. 954-731-9570. We have stayed there a number of times, usually in the winter....and hang at the beach in Miami. Very easy to find.

notanlines, thank you for the information and recommendation. I'll give them a call in the next few days to see if I need to reserve a storage spot ahead of time. Presently, I'm waiting on confirmations for camping sites around south Florida. I know a lot of people wing it, but at that time of year I'm a little hesitant to do that. Thanks again.
