Manual lift

Does a 2000 Towlite 17 lift system have a manual system to lower and raise top if there is a problem with motor? thanks

I think that feature is a "option" on most of the earlier models. You'd have to ask the seller.

My trailer has one, but it's a 2007 MY.

In my aframe where the lift system oil reservoir tank there is opening to insert a rod to manually pump up the trailer top. Due the RESTRICTED space, it would probably take several 100 pumps to raise the top. However, I haven't had to use it and also don't know how to lower it manually.

Practice the manual pump lever at home. It doesn't take as many 'pumps' to raise the camper as you think but is good exercise; mental and physical. Plus you aren't trying this in 90 degree temperatures in a campground miles from home. Hindsite is 20/20.

The small "lever ' on front of the pump allows lowering but only turn it a minimal amount or the top will come down fast on you. Hindsite is 20/20. You can adjust the lowering speed by how much you turn the lever.

Keep everything in this area, pump, batteries, wiring, etc. as clean as possible though it does get dirty when traveling. I wear disposable nitrile gloves for this and other jobs like emptying the holding tanks as I am allergic to latex.

RICHARD1943, Very good advice, for all systems. Try setting the unit up just like you just got to the site. Do everything a couple of times. Then do it all again, but have someone hold a hose spraying on you with a leaf blower as well. See what can happen!! Just kidding.
