Brake short
 

I'm having brake problems with my old 1988 Hi Lo and am at a loss (and the RV dealership/service center that's been helping me is also at a loss!)

When I got the trailer home from purchase and connected it to my Tekonsha brake controller in my F150, it worked as it's supposed to: I got brakes and a braking power number indicated on the controller.

We left on our trip later that week in HEAVY rain and After 15 min of driving I began to experience intermittent brake failures indicated by a loss of trailer brakes and the fault-code indicating a 'brake wire short' on the brake control box.

This problem came and went with increasing frequency over the next 100 miles or so and by the end of the trip I had no trailer brakes.

I left the trailer with the RV service center after inspecting every connection I could get to (at the campground) and seeing that they all looked OK to me.

The RV service center just called and said they couldn't find the problem either.

Now I'm at a loss!

What do I do? Re-wire the whole system? Take the hubs apart?

First you need to get a test light, ingage the brakes and start at the back of the truck and ck each juction to light the tester. After ck'ing the truck and every thing is good. I would go to the trailer toung next to the lower section there is a junction there on road side, from there ck the wire at the front axel, then the back axel you will probley find a place where the cover on the wire is bear and tuching metal shorting it. Got it! It was a bad connection on one of the hubs due to a corroded wire!
