Duo Therm a/c
Roof mounted is there a easyi way to seal roof with Kool Seal under unit than Remove unit...or can I just seal roof as close as I can get..without creating a Dam and more problems, like leak into camper through a/c seal
|
cva34, just paint as close and as smooth as possible. Please, keep the drains (one on each side toward the front) clear.

What do the “A/C drains” look like? Do I need to take the shroud off to see these? I cleaned the roof today in hopes of sealing it with koolseal tomorrow-roof looks great-hopefully the weather will cooperate!

The drains are just holes in the a/c pan. Have to take the cover off to access them.

Thx to all above ;I did know about (but any info is always welcome)..If and when I do remove ac and pan I plan to solder /braze/epoxy in drain tubes to each and run to outer edge /at roof level...That way I can blow them out now and then w/ air ..and or slip hose on and direct DRIP off roof if I want

I do like the idea of drain tubes coming off the roof. I've got a nice rust stain from the water running down the side of the RV (any suggestions on rust stain removal?).
But, I'd caution about mud daubers....they love to build nests in little tubes! I suspect that's why the pan drains aren't tubes, but flat depressions coming off the pan. But, it's certainly your call, don't mean to be nit-picky! |

You correct about Rust stains thats why I wana do on my Mobil Scout I had good luck with Bar Keepers Friend (its got Oxalic acid)in it and its non abrasive....I find it at Grocery store around Comet/ajax ... |
Thanks, I've heard of Barkeeper's Friend, but never used it. Looks like I'll be giving it a try in the spring!
Good luck! |
you might try stuffing some bits of steel wool up those tubes to block those pesky mud bugs...they'll get into everything to build a nest...I once bought a 1974 Dodge Dart from a friend who lives out in the country near LaGrange Tx...the car had been stored under a big oak tree for about 5 years and had,n't run since that time when I went to get it. I was amazed the we got it to start and I drove it back to Austin where I had a friend tune it up....he found a mud dobber nest down inside the carberator! I drove it home like that....man those old slant sixes were bullet proof.....
|
Good Idea on steel wool ...Better be SS steel wool...or some sort of plastic..otherwise more rust stains...Them old slant six were bullet proof...Had a friend that drove one Pickup to and from work about 90m a day...Had 3 speed on colum..and over 300k when it finaly rusted to pieces...maybe Plastic pipe would be better....Gota think on it ...

Kool seal went down very easily! Thanks for everyone’s help! Photo under photos!

Removing rust stains
I also use Bar Keepers Friend in powder form. I am able to purchase it at Walmart for shy of $2.00. Be sure to rinse off real good or it will leave a film. Try leaving it on for five minutes. Repeat with a longer time if necessary. If that doesn't work then try a magic eraser sponge.

Try using the drain plugs like on the refrigerator drain line. They are a plastic plug with a screen on it. They insert into the drain hose.
