Default Exterior storage doors flip up? Anyone modify?

Hi Folks! 👋🏻
Hi-Lo newbie here. My husband and I are coming back from our maiden voyage with our 1707T. I LOVE it, but my husband isn’t so sure. Neither of us are small people, and he thinks it’s too small, but I love my Honda Pilot so we can’t pull much bigger til my car dies (hopefully not for years!) He’s also frustrated that there is water damage in the walls that the former owner lied about 😡 and he’s not handy with that kind of stuff.

Anyway, we are struggling with some things...

One thing very hard for us is managing the outdoor storage in the compartments at the bottom of the trailer. Who thought it was a good idea to make the doors swing UP?? That design makes it even harder to get into them without basically lying on the ground. Neither of us can kneel due to surgeries and knee issues, so these doors are making it really hard for us to store the electrical cord, black slinky, chocks, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas for modifying these doors so they swing to the side? Or down? Or has anyone done something like this? I’ve found posts about changing the locks and keeping the lid up, but nothing about changing the door swing.

And I want to thank ALL of you for all the helpful posts... when we ran into any issues this past week, I came to this forum first for help. You are all so kind and helpful. Maybe someday I’ll meet some of you (we live in Northern Virginia)

Respectfully,
Dawn

Welcome Dawn. I had a rear storage door that I reversed from flipping up to opening down. I no longer have the unit so now it is a memory thing. I believe it had a piano hinge that I rescrewed to the bottom side of the door and had the locking unit on the top side. I never messed with the side compartment doors as I think they were hinged on the bottom. You should be able to reverse the storage door hinge setup with no problems. Good luck..........

Bob

Thanks for your reply, Bob. I have been thinking about it but our doors curve at the bottom (a J shape in profile), so I can’t just flip them upside down. I’m starting to think of maybe making the doors removable in some way? Still thinking...
