I've normally just scraped, primed (Rustoleum), and used a finish coat of enamel paint (Rustoleum) to maintain the frame in the under-carriage area of the trailer. Usually have to repeat every 2-3 years. Does anybody have any ideas how I can protect the under-carriage area with better materials?

I haven't give this a lot of thought, living in Tucson and not driving on salted roads.

But, have you thought of using undercoating paint? I think it should be more protective than "standard" paint and I think you can get it in spray cans.

I think that Jack is right . undercoating that they spray in pickup truck beds would work for that project.

The material they spray in truck beads is not undercoat, but rather a resilient polyurethane that is applied 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick, usually installed by a professional but is available as a roll on ... and expensive (ie Rino Linings). Undercoat is a tar like petroleum product that is used to deter rust and provide sound deadening to the under-body of your truck. I believe undercoating is available in rattle cans. I guess either would work, I guess!
