Grey water tank
 

Has anyone installed a second grey water with in the frame of the trailer for more grey water storage?

I haven't, but I think it's a good idea. I always have to figure out some creative way to get rid of some of the gray water on our outings, since we tend to stay in one spot for up to a week.

Jack, I've heard you can use 5 gal to put out your "campfire". I would think if you put out the fire 3 or 4 times a day you'd be okay. Never did it myself, of course.

camp, I'd do a lot of thinking about the best way to plumb a second tank to the first for draining it. But it is a great idea, I'll look [I]under[I] today. Also gotta think of weight placement or ensure a dump before travel.

Tree, that's one of my "creative" ways to reduce the grey water load. I use whatever it takes to make sure the fire is "dead out" (as Smokey Bear used to say). I don't feel bad doing it, and it IS only grey water!

And there isn't any reason to feel bad. I don't think there are many "tent" campers that carry their grey water to a dump site or toilet!

Easier and cheaper to carry a “blue boy” with you than trying to figure out extra plumbing. I carry a 26 gallon model with me. It has a “popup float gauge” that tells me when it is full. Just attach it to hitch ball on truck and pull to dump site.

From an engineer point of view would the extra weight throw the trailer off balance? Would effect towing,tongue wt. Depends if the grey tank was full or not.

Bob, we take so much junk with us that the bulk of a "blue boy" wouldn't work for us. So far, we've never had to take the trailer to a dump site while camped. The fire pit has served us well.

That's what I'm doing now just thinking of options always camping at campgrounds with dump stations so getting rid of 60 gallons of grey water wouldn't be a problem
Since I work at a sheetmetal shop I would make one out of stainless steel

The trick would be design and mounting
Also thin material for less weight

Isn’t one of the solutions to pump your greywater into the blackwater tank, since the black fills up much more slowly than the grey?

You’d probably nearly double your time-between-dumps.

One question I have with adding a second grey tank is interconnecting them. Do you just add a crossover line fairly low in the tanks (so ideally you want them fairly close together - inches)?

Also, how do you handle/plumb draining?

Since the tanks would be at the same level I would just tie the 1 1/2 drains together
The original tanks are mounted behind the axle the additional grey water would be mounted just in front of the axle I'm looking at adding maybe 3' of pipe over the top of the axle which shouldn't be a problem

The venting of the new graywater tank would tie into the existing vent when the tank is filling or drainage I shouldn't have to move the sensor since the tanks are the same level
When I build the tank I would build it around the existing framing and lifting cables and mount it to the main frame rails so not to weaken the floor

Good plan, camp. Let us know how things are done and what your finial thoughts are. I think this season I'll just keep putting out my camp fire. We have gotten to that point in the past where we could have packed up, dumped and re-set up, but with just a few days left we just put out the "fire".
I have to admit, this time of year, the forum is real quiet.

I have always believed that getting up well past sunset and thinking, positively, about having an empty grey water water tank has worked well. Time after time, I have done this, and , voila, come morning the tank is empty with a slightly heavier "morning dew" mark apparent on the grass or dirt towards the back of my trailer - likely do to my wife tossing out the dishwater from our dishpan in the sink.:) Think positive!!
