Water Pump and Storage Help?
 

Hey everyone!
I am working on getting my camper all set up and ready to go and currently looking into water storage options. Right now I have a sink and faucet but there isn't any water storage of any kind.

My hilo is an old 1968 16 footer so there isn't a lot of space. I am thinking of putting 2 collapsible 5 gallon containers and then attaching a water pump to them. What I am wondering is, how do I find the correct flange so that the tube from the water pump fits snuggly onto the container?

Kadin - you pose an interesting problem. I'm hardly an expert, but I doubt if there's any kind of flange that will adapt your proposed pump to the collapsible water container you are considering. That pump is designed to be used with a rigid, under frame water tank that would be permanently mounted to your trailer. I suspect you could find a tank that would fit if you did a search. Mounting it would be a bit of a challenge, but I suspect it would be "doable". I'd go look under other trailers to see how it's done.

A further consideration though, is what do you do with the waste water from the sink. Most campgrounds will not want you to just dump it on the ground, even though it's just "grey" water. So, you need a grey water tank too. Again, have a look at some other RVs to get an idea of the plumbing needs and how and where to locate it.

Additionally, I feel certain your trailer originally came with those two tanks and the plumbing that was needed. Is any of it still in place?

Others may have better thoughts than mine, so keep monitoring this thread for replies.

Yes, I do realize I am doing it sort of a funky way. I was planning on just putting a 5 gallon bucket under where there drain is and then just dumping that at the dump station when at a campground... If I had the grey water storage attached underneath then I would have to move the camper every time I needed to dump... which I guess wouldn't be too big of a problem if the grey water storage was big enough. Hm, something to look into.

Do you know where I can get the larger containers that mount to the camper?

There currently aren't any tanks at all attached to the trailer... I guess someone must have removed them at some point.

I just did a quick search on etrailer.com and found this link for fresh water tanks. https://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-RV_...ater_Tank.aspx I bet one of them would fit your trailer.

Another approach would be to communicate with JR Repair. Home - JR REPAIR They may have exactly the parts you need, or, they may be able to advise you on what would work.

it totally seems as if you would be able to get some flexible polyurethane tubing from lowes or home depot which would stretch around the pour spout of those containers and then a hose clamp could be used to keep them in place. then all you need to do is get the appropriate barb reducer/expander fitting to go to the pump. certainly not as convenient as having an onboard tank, but it would give you water. I recently bought a fresh water tank for an expo trailer build im working on, got it from amazon, 20 gallons for like $60. I just searched for rv fresh water tank, and got lots of hits.

Check out blue dump tanks. Camping World has them as well as other places on the net. You fill them with either grey water or black water. Then you hitch them up to your hitch/ball. You wouldn't have to move your HiLo. Just empty them at the dump station. Your inside space is limited. You might want to consider a ports poty. This breaks apart easily and can be dumped into a campsite toilet. Nice to have for middle of the night use or when it is raining "cats and Dogs".
