Converter died

Refurbishing our 2001 Towlite. Added solar and installed an A-B switch so I can switch from solar to shore for my 12V charging. A position connects the converter to the battery, and B position connects solar to the battery.

I had shutdown all power during the install, then powered up and everything worked fine except I am not getting output from the converter and cooling fan doesn’t run. Checked and both fuses are fine, outlet to the converter is live.

The converter appears to be the original, and I see most others on the forum have replaced theirs.

Is it normal for a converter to just quit with no warning?

I ordered a replacement to install, but I am curious.

Anything can quit at any time. Case in point, shut computer down then won't boot (power supply went bad), used washing machine one day next day no lights or power on machine (bought new washer), used my 20hp outboard one day next day runs only on 1 cylinder (ignition coil), friends garden tractor worked when he put it away last fall this spring no spark, and the one that really hurt $650.00 wireless remote with autopilot trolling motor way out of warranty and no parts availablitiy keeps turning left. and the list goes on, thankfully it doesn't all happen at once or in the same year.

Things break

Yes, DH had to replace our converter. It was the original. Lights would dim when furnice kicked in. Ordered from Best Converter. By the time you need something new they are usually an improved model. Our blower motor was noisy on our house furnice. Ordered one with standard shipping. It came fast. The next day after delivery it totally died. Thank goodness Dh is very handy. Took 1&1/2 hr. for install. Last year the furnice condensate pan was bad. Repair guy wanted five Hundred dollars to fix. DH got the parts for $100.00 and fixed himself. Just replaced a part in our Delts kitchen faucet. It was under life time warranty. The Co shipped it to us for free. No more drips!! Some times parts are no longer available. Today I was in Sams club. Needed a cartridge for my very old HP printer. They don't even carry my # anymore. Walmart wanted 79.00 for three tri color cartridges. Bought a new HP printer for $113.00 plus tax. Printers are cheap. It is the ink that gets you in the wallet. Joined the HP internet ink club program. Stuff happens and things break!! Usually happens in threes.
