Default A/c oops!

During hurricane Irma, I was real happy to have a/c and life in the Hi Lo was great. Now, however, not so sure. On our most recent trip to Osprey, FL, we arrived and went through the routine of set up. A/C went on as usual, but at the relax stage, we smelled electrical odors throughout. Offed the a/c. ten mins later restarted, same thing. I'll trouble shoot tomorrow, but I feel a motor change or an new a/c. Perhaps too low of amps, or just enough to make it feel good, but not good for the motor.
It's old, and a new motor and the chasing for it and parts may not be worth it. Noisy too!
Any one replaced theirs? If so what type and were additional parts required? Many, it seems require a t-stat, or the inside cover is additional. Mine is ducted and seems that the plenum etc must be purchased separately. I'd like to get a very quiet unit and would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Not much interest. But I'll do a follow-up anyway. Chatted with Dometic and settled on a Brisk II with a new air distribution box for the inside. Unit sits a bit higher (7") and not much quieter but cools the house rapidly, then I turn the fan to "low" and all is well.
Only problem, unit arrived a day earlier so I made preparations for the next morn, I can't lift the 85# over my head. We removed the old A/C, cleaned the roof, etc opened the UNDAMAGED box to find the shroud broken from a mounting screw to the top corner. Well with a hole in the roof, we installed the new A/C, but when I called Dometic, I was told the entire unit had to be repackaged, sent back and the replacement would be sent out.
Tried to explain about re-installing the old unit, sending back the broken unit, waiting 10 days for the new one was out of the question, "Wait a sec, and I'll check with the boss---nope, he says send it back".
End result, I did the repair myself, no visual difference. All's well. Except for the reviews Dometic will get. Partly my fault, I know, but
I feel it would have been better (and cheaper!) to send a new shroud, and allow me to use that box to return the broken one.
If their is ever a "next one" I'll go with the Atwood.

Gary do you feel atwood makes better AC units than Dometic? Or was that just an FYI in passing?

Thanks for sharing your story. Can't believe how Dometic wouldn't just send you a new cover dah!! I bet the tech answering the phone never lifted an AC unit to install. I have seen pictures of one man rigging up some sort of pull straps and sliding it up a ladder to get it on the roof. Our HiLo dealer fork lifted it on our roof. I guess everyone needs a forklift in their tool box!! Please consider writting action line for Trailer Life magazine. I'm sure they could use the free publicity.

It's probably a manufacturing issue the damaged one will go in a "rework" pile. This is less disruptive to the assembly line.
