Furnace Exhaust Cover?

I don't know if all Hi-Los are the same, but we have the 2310. The standard screen cover will not fit over the furnace exhaust on the outside of the trailer. My husband plans to put plain screen over it, is that what is usually done and if someone has done this, how fine of screen would we use? I realize this will need to be kept very clean as regular screen clogs quite easily. Thank you.

Instead of "window screen", I wonder if 1/4" hardware cloth would work?

I googled "rv furnace screens" and came up with a whole bunch of different ones. There were round ones, square ones, oblong ones, and some appeared to be "higher" than others. Don't know if Suburban models take one type and Atwood another type. Just a suggestion............................

1/4 x 1/4" works well but will not keep mud daubers out.

That is what I use on my old hi-lo. We don't have daubers in the desert.

I do need to come up with a good wind deflector screen for high winds.
If the wind is over 15 mph the heater fan cant overcome the winds force, and no heat. Have to pile up tubs and use small tarp.

The problem with adding a screen on the furnace on hilo trailers is the clearance for the upper section gasket
It should be stainless steel 1/8" hardware cloth not screen
A good sheetmetal shop should be able to fabricate one with a stainless steel frame for your trailer
If you have to have one don't cut corners or you may have problems with the operation of the furnace

Amazon has #6 stainless steel screen, 12"x12" piece is $15. #6 means 6 wires /inch or 1/6" spacing. I think that would work.

Thanks everyone! I'll have my husband check it out. We knew the regular commercial ones would not work because of the clearance needed.
