Default Looking for a Dometic 2410 dealer

Looks like we'll be replacing our refrigerator in the 2287. Had it running on propane the other day, opened the door to check it and the ammonia ran us out of the camper. Looks like the direct replacement for our model is the Dometic 2410. Can anyone point us to a reputable distributor in the midwest? Not sure this is something I want to tackle myself and I'd like to get it changed over the winter and be ready for camping season next year. I know we're looking at some $$$
Thanks.
/Ken

Default Replacing ref.

We had our HiLo dealer replace our ref. in March. They took us in the HiLo to show it was running okay. It was cold outside. We didn"t use the HiLo until June. The Ref.smelled like burning wires. Back to the dealer for warranty repairs. The ref. wasn't sealed properly and the smell was burning propane. In other words you can't smell for a problem in cold weather. Possibly a ppiece of foam or weather stripping fell down causing the propane leak. We got a warranty and had to have a check each year(no COST). Warranty check signed on the card. One big advantage witha dealer install is that you get a warranty.

A warranty is very good...but costly.
My 1985 funchaser needed a new refer.
I did the repairs and it cost me $400 for the ammonia coils.
I did a very complete diagnosis for the problem. Everything other than the ammonia coil checked out A OK.
Newly rebuilt it ran excellent and continues today, 4 years of considerable use.

Not hard to do for the replacement. Diagnosis is the most important part of the job.
Also added external and internal fans. Which made it better than original.

I believe the site I used for the diagnosis and purchase was ... ATCO.com

They clean and fill the ammonia coil, and IT has a warranty.

Thank you Sam, we hadn't considered a warranty through a dealer, we're just looking for a new refrigerator from a reputable outlet. That's a good point though.

Thanks Reno, you wouldn't happen to have the part number for the replacement? I need to get a day where I can find where the leak is. It's definitely ammonia, but we can't smell it outside, it's in the trailer. I did find atcoamerica.com that looks like a rebuilt Dometic cooling unit outlet. How do internal and external fans install? Any information would be appreciated.

Ken
I do not have that info right now. But they can help with that. They are good and know their business!
They will tell you what numbers or size.
That is the correct business name.
Their site has all of the diagnosis procedures.

You cannot repair ammonia coil! They will sell you a rebuilt coil that you will need to install in the refer box. It is a sealed system.
You will remove from the cabinet into the interior, so you don't have to remove the 3 heating and venting parts.
It is not as hard as one might expect.
As I said before diagnose all 3 systems before going on to coil.

I ran wiring into the refer from the back for the inside, very small(80cm), fan and added rear(120mm) fan for cooling during warm weather use.
Installed 2 switches interior to control both. They are very quiet and work magnificently.
Mine was a winter project and I wasn't in a major hurry.

Default Replacing ref.

If my memory serves me well our HiLo dealer got us our two way ref. for $800.00. This came with a warranty from Dometic. Not an extra charge. This was installed several yeara ago. Knock on wood..still working!!! A three way wasn't available as a replacement. We prechill and freeeze food and this works well for us as we travel to our destination.

Default Dometic 2410

underpsi, Amazon sells a Dometic RM2410 refer @ $936. Lots of bucks. It's not amazon prime, but it is free shipping (guess so at that price). I've never bought one, but I'd call the supplier (Campers Paradise) and get the particulars before I ordered it. Costly and YOU have it install it.
