Yellowstone in September

Hey fellow hi-loers! I know there is a thread on here regarding Yellowstone national park from a couple of years ago but I'm looking for some additional input.

Ive been thinking of doing a trip to Yellowstone in September. I tent camped there many many years ago but this will be new.

1. I've got a 21 footer with a 20 foot truck and in reading about access to campsites Im seeing that configuration may often be too big. Some say restrictions are 40 overall (at the limit, then) and some mention 30 feet but I'm unsure if that number is combined or not. What have people's experiences been with regards to fitting a trailer my size into campsites and also having somewhere to park the truck?

2. Looks like it gets pretty crowded , still, that time of year. any ideas on how crowed and when it starts to slack off a bit?

3. Any ideas on camping outside the park and travelling in and out?

4. We are certainly NOT opposed to dry camping for for four or five days---and would likely prefer it if the sites are nicer. Any thoughts on the "rv sites" vs non-designated in the park?

5. I see campgrounds run by the park Service are first come first serve and people start lining up 7:30 am? Others, that take reservations, are what they are but I'wondering how they compare in terms of locations to attractions etc.?

6. Favorite or preferred campgrounds?

Its early, of course, but I may put down a reservation anyway-as, even now, online they are filling up.

ANY thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Rick
