Cushion renew
Hello folks- the foam in my dinette/bed cushions needs to be replaced.
Is there a certain kind of foam that should be used? And, is it as simple as cutting the foam to size and re-stuffing the cushion covers? Thanks very much Dennis 1508T |
You really need furniture quality foam. It can be bought at a place that sells foam and fabric to renew furniture.
I replaced ALL the OEM foam in my trailer with a higher density foam that was 1" thicker than the OEM stuff. I got it at a store in Tucson, AZ and they cut it to the sizes I needed. I had it cut to the same width and length as the OEM stuff. It is VERY hard to cut foam properly - let the experts do it. Then, I just stuffed it into the original covers. If you have a place that reupholsters furniture where you live, they may tell you where they get their supplies. - Jack |
Hey Jack-thanks for the quick reply. So, when you used the 1” thicker foam, it still fit in the original covers?

Your best bet would be a cushion shop that sells boat cushion foam in the east bay this is the route that I'm going to use
You would goggle it for location and you would get the best price A regular fabric might not have the quality that your looking for I would go with the same size foam |
upholstery cushions
Where I live we have two upholstery shops. Yrs. ago my mom made new couch cushions. The shop she used had a special machine to stuff the foam in. Foam comes in many sizes and grades of thickness. Jack is right let the pros cut it for you. They might stuff them in because you bought the foam from them. Many RV manufactures use a cheap grade of foam.

Again, I took the old foam out, measured it, and then had the new foam cut to the same length and width. - Jack |
Thanks!!

Hey Camper-
Thanks for your reply. I was looking at Bob’s Foam in Fremont—anybody else I should check out? Thanks, Dennis |

I see people use the really light weight plastic, like what is on dry cleaned clothes, to wrap the foam to make it easier to slip into the cover.
