Default J&R Repair or Midget RV/HiLo Parts & Service?

I just read the the thread Shout out to J&R and the posts all seemed positive on J&R and negative on MidgetRV/HiLo Parts & Service.

I am planning the purchase of a HiLo and taking it to one of these shops to have it checked out and any necessary work done.

I would appreciate feedback on both facilities, more on their expertise, quality of work and honesty rather than slow email response or presumed attitude.

Thanks

GJ

I've never heard of MidgetRV. Where are they?

J&R has my vote. They were the warranty repair shop for HiLo for many years and know where every nut and bolt is located from the bottom up. Their shop is in the original HiLo factory in Butler, Ohio. Jim has been there a long time.

Home - Midget RV & HiLo Service & Parts

That was started by the son-in-law of Jim Snyder, the last owner of HiLo. They are located in Bellville, OH on the opposite side of town from where the HiLo factory was located.

Can't comment on "Midget Service" as I have never used them. "J&R Repair" has done all my work. J&R has been around for years and their work speaks for itself.

Default J&R

I wrote the original "shout out" post and wanted to add an additional two cents! Jim and Rob are honest and fair with a lot of experience working on/with HiLo. The facility itself (rented I believe) is very old but serves its purpose!

Default J&R Repair

I have called J&R repair a few times and Rob has given me great advice. I haven't even spent one dime getting parts as I have a local HiLo dealer. One member of our camping club has taken his unit for repairs/modifications twice and has been very satisfied.

Default Advice about free advice.

Don't be upset if you call places looking for free advice and you don't get complete satisfaction from them. You have to remember that they are in business to make a living and giving out too much information can cut into their profits. We had people that came into the hardware store seeking free advice and then they would go elsewhere to buy the needed goods at a lower price. Needless to say we were careful about what we gave out. There also can be liability issues involved, especially where there are things like electrical problems.

So don't be disappointed if the place you call is reluctant to give you free advice. You have to look at it from their viewpoint.

Call J and R Trailer repair at 740-392-1600. They were the HiLo repair/parts shop for the factory for decades. Their email/website is jrrepair@centurylink.net.

We bought a camper from Midget RV. We do not think he is honest or trust worthy. He was furious that I would not pay his asking price and was almost abusive about it. He seemed to need money badly. We went to his bank to get the title signed over and we had to stay there until they cashed the Cashiers check that we had taken. He took it all out in cash, which surprised me. He had forgotten to give us the Booklet that he had that came with the camper. I hadn't realized that until I got home. I emailed him about it and asked him about something he told me but I had forgotten. He wouldn't even answer the email. He knew that we were a first time Hi Low owner and didn't know much about. I would not trust him. There were many things in the camper that he cut corners on to save a little money. Things that would have only cost a little more. He didn't even know how to open the freezer door even though he stated that everything was working in the camper.
