AC Upgrade Capacitor

I just finished upgrading the 13,500 BTU AC's start capacitor on my 2207T to a larger unit (SUPCO SPP6 PTC Capacitor Combination). The larger hard start capacitor allows you to use a smaller inverter generator to run the AC with a 2500 Watt or maybe a smaller 2000 Watt unit.

Great find, John! Thanks for posting it. I bet an undersized capacitor has been responsible for "shore power" circuit breaker popping during very hot days. While we don't generally stay at RV parks, we have used them for overnight stops on our travels, especially through the desert in summer. And, in two cases, with the A/C on medium or high cool, the circuit breakers in the shore power pedestal have popped (not the ones in the trailer). To be fair, we were also running the refrigerator and hot water heater on AC power too, so our total load was probably pretty high.

I just had to replace my A/C unit due to faulty amperage from a Ontario Provincial Park,not enough juice to fire up A,C unit and cooked the compressor.I just invested 100 bucks in a surge protector and voltage reader,money I should have invested in before

Does this capacitor piggy-back on the existing start capacitor? Because that looks/sounds just like the hard-start capcitors used for decades on residential AC's. |
Knotty, this is an old thread and NDgent may not be active now. If you look at the "before" and "after" pictures of the capacitor installation, it looks to me as though the old capacitor has been removed. It was under that component (the "run" capacitor?) on the right side in the first photo and I don't see it in the last one.
I THINK, however, you COULD wire them in together, in parallel for even greater capacitance. I don't know if that would be good or bad though. I don't think I'd try it that way. - Jack |
