Default Need 1984 Fun Lite manuel

I have just obtain a 1984 HiLo camper. I am in need of manual-- I could
get by with a spec sheet and a wiring diagram. The trailer measures 17' from the back bumper to front of tounge. I believe the fun lite has been set up
for about three years. I would appreciate any help that can be sent my way.

Welcome to the forum. The manuals are pretty generic and if you find one that is close to your year model, everything will be pretty much the same. Please check out the reference library as there is a plethora of valuable information.

Thanks for the reply RCREYES! I did find two important pieces of info in the
library. The first is a good write up on the adjusting and repair of the lifting
system, which included a nice pictorial of the lifting system. The second was
a wiring schematic of a year different than mine. I suppose I was hoping that I would luck out and find someone that has the same HiLo as mine and would
have a manual. My next step on my trailer is to pull the hydraulic pump. I think it is stuck and probably lacks fluid.

Welcome to the forum. What problems are you having with the HiLo? You say you may have to pull the pump. It would be very unusual for the pump to be stuck. Are you sure the pump has power. The pump motor may be burned out and it is just a starter motor. Any auto electric shop can check that for you. There is lots of help here on the forum but we need to know more about your problems and your background as far as troubleshooting electrical, plumbing, hydraulics etc.

Hi JIM L
Jim I have power to the motor. I bought a new Battery and rigged up the switch circuit to operate the solonoid . Their is only a master switch next to
pull cable. The switch has three wires for the pump circuit, a red wire to quick
release, a yellow wire that goes to the solonoid activate terminal and a black
wire that went back into the trailer. I cut it and made it go to the positive
terminal of the battery along with an inline fuse. I had voltage to the pump
motor. There was about a four and a half volt drop. I am going to pull it and
check it out. I have to re build the bracing under the case any way. My back-
ground, I retired from Shell Oil Co with 27 years of service as an electrician
and I have a little experience in Hydraulics.

Try whacking the pump motor lightly to medium hard with a hammer while you have the switch activated. Sometimes the motor brushes have oxidized or the motor is sitting on a "dead" spot.

If that doesn't work, try a bigger hammer, and if it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!

Hi blandrysr
Sounds like you know your electrical ok. I take it that the red wire to the quick release is the lowering valve on the hydraulic pump. Try taking a jumper cable and connect from the positive post on the battery to the pump motor side of the solenoid to see if the motor starts. This will be bypassing everything in the pump circuit. Make sure you have a good ground connection from the battery to ground and pump motor to ground. Bad grounds have been a major problem on RVs. Clean your ground connections. If jumping directly to the pump motor does not work then time to remove the pump. The pump motor most likely has seized. Any auto electrical shop can test it, repair it or replace it. Hi again blandrysr
I went back and read your first post and you indicated the fun lite has been up for 3 yrs and you thought the pump was low on hyd fluid. When the top is up there is very little fluid left in the reservoir, maybe an inch or so, and when the top is lowered the fluid level will come up to within aprox 1 inch of the top. If you add much fluid when the top is up it will blow out of the cap vent hole when you lower the top and make a real mess. You check the fluid level when the top is down. Wow, great info boabrother2, Jack & Janet and Jim L. Well I did whacked it
and nothing a lot of my cajun friends told me to try that to. By the way I am from South Louisiana. Good instructions on fluid level Jim L. I will read your post again when I get to that point. Thanks! When I picked the HiLo up I
drove it home on my small 96 Isuzu pickup. I did have to put two new tires and rims before I could move it. It pulled easily. The camper itself is about
14 feet long with about 3 feet of tounge. Just what I wanted. My tow
vehicle will be my 04 Isuzu Rodeo SUV. All I had time to today was pull the
hydraulic unit- no problem. I got a little info. The tag on the pump only had
what I thought to be a part #. It was the only thing readable. The tag under the motor, the only thing I could make out was the mfg. (Fenner Stone, Inc.) Thanks to all of you who responded to my post. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Well took apart the d.c. motor. A little water came out And their was evidence of rust. I clean it out as best I could without taking it complete apart. I sprayed WD40 in it loosened it by hand turning back and forth. I checked out the release solonoid and it was good. Hooked it to the battery in the shop and it worked. Now and now I need to figure out what kind of hyd oil to use, seem like I read that it shnould be dexron oil. Help please. Billy

Yes dexron or type A auto transmission fluid is what the manual says you should use. Be sure to dry out the pump motor before putting it under a heavy load. If the insulation on the field windings is wet or damp you could short the field under a load.

Thanks Jim L I think I will run The motor for a while a few times to dry the
inside a little more . There is no oil in the pump. Do you think it would hurt
the pump to run it with out oil for about a minute at the time for a few times?

OK Dirtfan. I know that an auto engine needs oil to operate. Not knowing the working of the inside of a hyd pump, but knowing the purpose of the pump is to push oil to the ram I thought maybe I could get by with spraying WD 40 within the pump to run it a little while. OK I will just put the unit back on the camper, fill it up with transmission fluid and hope for the best.

Do not run the pump without oil and do not spray WD-40 in it. WD-40 can destroy some types of O-rings and seals. Always lube with the type of fluid that is used in the pump. I also would not run the pump motor to dry it out. It could be damp or wet enough to cause a short. Just dry it out in the house for a few days and you might speed it up by putting a fan on it. More problems---I put the hyd unit back on the camper, after mounting the unit
and hooking it up the electricial connections I started to fill the unit with oil. There was no evidence of leakage looking at the unit from the front. I then looked under the trailer and I saw oil leaking. Well I disconnected the unit and removed the hyd unit, checked it out. Under the reservour cover I found pitted
holes. I may have to start saving for a new unit unless I can find a new cover.
