Cables

Hello guys, I'm new to the forum and the Hi-Lo family. I bought a 1988 funchaser last year and it needs quite a few things. When I bought it one of the cables were caught up in the top pull and u had to cut it to get it out. I now need new cables and all and the only place I have found any is a place called Midgets. Is there any advice about cables and maybe having them made locally that anyone has. Also the roof is going to need some work as there are some issues there and any advice on that would be great. Thanks in advance

Hello and congrats on your purchase! I’m new to the forum and new to owning a HiLo as well.

From what I gather while doing research on this forum, some members have taken their broken cables to a machine shop to have them fabricated. While that may be an option, so would contacting jrrepair@centurylink.net with the vin on the trailer and asking them what it would cost to fabricate or send you a replacement.

Welcome to the forum

Look up this 15 page post called Cable replacement in my 1998 HiLo 24TD..3-3-2010 I have not had to do cable replacement. It is cheaper if you buy the materials and make the cable your self. Roof repair...we need more information to answer your question. What exactly is the problem?

FYI, it takes the same effort to change one cable as all four. Then you know where you stand with regard to cable wear and stretch. Cost more, sure, but peace of mind goes a long way.

I have purchased parts, received guidance and advice which has saved me lots of time, aggravation AND money from Joel who is the former HiLo Plant Manager.

This is from the official HiLo website www.hilotrailer.com:

Who they are here at MIDGET RV AND TRAILER SERVICE aka PJ Woodwork LLC / HiLo Parts / Midget Mfg.
I (Joel) am the former Plant Manager of the HiLo Company and have been around HiLo for the past 30 years. That's because my father-in-law is Jim Snyder former owner of the company. It was his brother Don Snyder who started HiLo back in 1955.

Joel can be difficult to connect with because he's REALLY busy but he's extremely conscientious and will definitely get back to you. I have found that if I send an email and ask him to call me that works best. I've also had good luck if I try to call early in the morning. Remember, it is a low overhead operation so they don't have administrative help.

Thanks for the great posting and information. I own a 2010 17 ft. Towlite that may have been one of the last trailers to roll off your line ... still in excellent condition. TJO
