Hello, I’m Eric and my fiance and I ( I mean me, let’s be real she of course was against to getting a camper) got our first camper and it’s a 1992 , 23 foot loaded Funlite, it came with I believe all options including the Oven and original Manual and all the individual manuals got all the components.

Everything works besides I can’t figure out the furnace yet, haven’t looked at manual yet as I’m lazy.

And now for the fun stuff; the camper came equipped with everything it left the factory with and for the most part only some cosmetic blemishes so to speak as it’s a 92. So YES! Since us millennials love to fix and change everything we are. ( again I mean me) restoring/ remodeling it!

This is going to include the floor plan being changed, possibly the bathroom/shower getting changed and put together (you will be sitting in the shower or standing in it to use shower). Going to try to stretch all the space and can get.

The kitchen counter is going to be shortened in length and width, space between the stove/range and double sink eliminated. Also the space behind the stove to the wall of the trailer removed, so 5-6 inches length cut from wall, and 2 feet or 32ish inches of width gone!

We are toying (I mean I) with the idea of moving the kitchen to the other side, or moving it down towards the front to create space where the kitchen was, this will give us a actual space for a master bedroom bed, then move the shower/toilet to where the wardrobe was, the bed will cover all of stuff I removed so I don’t have to worry about floor design and the shower will take the space vice verse on the other side ! The sink may get removed all together or have it in the shower too, gonna make for a compact shower:toilet but if you think about it, you will have more room while using bathroom and you won’t be in front of the folding door.

I started sanding & staining the cabinets, doing some roll on wallpaper with some beautiful wood designs, installed led lights everywhere, replacing the Ceiling exhaust fan with a remote one, 600 AH of some new batteries , panels soon, and exterior paint soon.

I’ve missed a ton as these campers need a lot of work to bring them to modern tech, but they are great platforms in my opinion.

Also installed a smart projector on my AC vent and the screen hangs on the folding walll. It’s perfect ,

Also needing to replace the sliding track for the wall I got a nice updated one from amazon and going to go with some new wall elements and before you know it , it will be summer in AZ which means not much camping without hookups so I’ll be doing a bit of the work then at night!

As for right now we take it out every couple of weekends and it does a good job, tows well, had to work out some electrical kinks but now she has LED rear trailer lights that can be seen well and everything works like a charm

Anyways if you got any how tos, to share by all means I’m. It trying to reinvent the wheel but I’m no newbie to Motorsport and things we love to waste money on forums I know there are threads written on mostly everything and the last thing I want to do is do something someone else did, I’m exploring a new world with all my own creativity on a huge platform with a lot of space so I’m excited, but when it comes to stuff that will get set on fire or flip the trailer on the highway I will be reading everything :)

Cheers

If the pics i linked dont work, heres a google album i put together, ill upload some actual pictures when I get some REAL work done.

Welcome to the forum.

Agree with Jack's comments 100%..Love to see some pictures of the finished remodel. Just some thoughts. You may want to eliminate the shower entirely to save space. You can shower at most campgrounds. Just use flip flops. Going to a single sink will save space. We usually wash dishes in a dish pan on the picnic table and water a tree with the grey water. If the weather is nice you will spend a great deal of time outdoors. You are not the first person to take on a remodel. We are here to help and answer questions for you.

Appreciate the warm welcome!

The main objective here is to remodel the trailer while using the smallest amount of money. Anyone can throw their wallet at things heck I have a 1993 turbo Acura race car that has a ignition system from a late model car on a dinosaur factory but built engine, and the computer in it has 3 extra computers so the original computer board has another board, and then some extra wiring with another board. From a distributor to no distributor coil on plug, god the modifications I’ve undertaken to make stuff work in a engine that just wasn’t designed to handle what it does....insanity, losing ones mind and 50,000 later the engine is still in the machine shop getting yet another modification.

So from experience I’ve learned that I want to do things that aren’t going to put the thing out of commission, don’t require time from other people I had to rely on, and don’t make a mark on the wallet. I put a $100 amazon mattress in it, best decision ever I’m gonna link it , I’ll edit this post on the computer. The LED lights were a godsend, projector + micro computer I’ll link those too, both were fairly priced and weigh like 3 lbs total , I got a small fire pit from Walmart I think it’s pop metal for $25 and it is stored in the bathroom at the moment when Teaveling, huge patio mat for $15 , LED wireless Lights they are little discs / pucks you tap to turn on plus remote , think they were $20 , long LED strip, I think I’ll add a ton of LED strips when all said and done I’d like to illuminate the entire camper outside and in with a pair of D battery’s (efficiency) also got a Solar Porch light. Found a h2o can that fits under the dinette seat along with a spare propane 20lb , going to add some storage compartments to the exterior to hold more stuff and make use of the back bumper for storage of some sort but rule of thumb is weight needs to be on the tongue not the rear so I really need to put the camper on a race chassis scale so I know how the weight is distributed , I’ve gone as far as contemplating changing the position of the axles and modification to make the camper capable of toy hauling 2 ATVs, yeah I’ve gone out of control but for what I got into this and what it does this is my best shot at making a masterpiece without losing a big investment. Everyone that sees it ( all the 500k type a owners) ask me how much I “ enjoy my Hilo” makes me proud that a guy like me can have something cheap and still be respected by the upper class, but RV culture as I’m finding out in America is so damn respectful and friendly I have to remind myself to not be surprised l, it’s just new to me.

I’m not trying to win car shows, just make something fit my neeeds and give it the love and tender love and care it deserves, being something owned by me gets its pros and cons, this particular item I own is luck because I beat the living s&$@ out of everything else that has wheels I own.

so here are some of the things I added to the hilo:

New Curtain Track (not fully installed yet)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

New Mattress for lounge bed, needs alterations to fit, not wide enough and too long but the most comfortable small mattress ive ever slept on I bought one for my S10/Canopy Camper I designed:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

wireless keyboard with mouse for the Projector and Computer:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

RV Repair Tape w/ ROller:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

my micro windows 10 computer that is mounted with Velcro next to the projector on the AC vent:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My Smart/3D HD Mini Projector I bought on sale, currently unavailable for sale not sure and I think the asking price is $400 elseware but I got it for 320 i think:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My roof Rack for extra gear:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

17 inch drop down dvd/media player:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and some magic, I use these to control things like Lights, a Lock, Turning on/off the AC, Whatever I want to hook up and access VIA my cellphone I use one of these boards. Right now I can control the AC by Wifi, as well as LED lights, I'm working on locks and other things for the future, same with the Solar panels and eventually generator

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I hope some of these items give you ideas on things you can do to your hilo. I have a huge imagination & I come up with some out of this world ideas. I got told a couple of times that I should restore/rebuild campers for a business and the thought stuck, so instead what im going to do is buy older campers, rebuild them and sell them, enjoy them along the way, try to make my money back and a little profit- that would be a fun hobby
