Hi-Lo camper travel trailer forum

Hello all. Just bought our first family camper. It is a 1993 Hi Lo model 2693BR. The camper is in pretty good condition, a little old and dated but complete. It will be me, my wife, 10 year old son, and 2 dogs camping in this thing.

I went and looked at this camper the other day from an older gentleman who never even used it. He bought it a couple years ago for him and his wife to use but she decided she didn't want to camp anymore. Everything seemed to be functioning, but once I got it home I couldn't get the darned top to lift. The old fella did mention that it should be level in order to raise it but it wasn't that far off. The front would start to raise but the motor would bog and the back would only barely lift.

I got under it and jacked it up, put blocks under it, fighting to get the level perfect. Then I got to looking at the cables and hydraulic ram thingy. I took sand paper and cleaned/lubed to rod the ram slides on because it looked like it may be binding. No help... The rear cables had a good bit of slack so I found where to adjust these and got them pretty even but still no help. By this time I was getting pretty flustered.

Went inside and searched this forum a good bit, not really finding anything suspect. Finally went back outside and got inside the camper and started investigating. To my dismay, back behind the wall in bedroom I found the rear lower cargo door not latched and sticking out barely. I took a long bar and held it closed while my son pushed the raise button. She went right up after that....

So, turned out to be a simple stupid mistake that drove me nuts for a couple hours. There is a lot of great info on this forum and I look forward to sharing pics and stories with everyone.
