Default First time owner.

Good morning all. I just purchased a 1989 funlite and am here for the great info. I haven't picked up the trailer yet, but it seems to be in great condition.

Good luck & welcome to the forum. Happy Easter!

Here's a checklist that you might find useful:

This was taken from NDgent's post here on the forum. It is a great go-by list. You can do a search of "thinking about buying" and find his post to read it first hand.

Basically, start with the visual items –
1. Exterior
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.
• Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots (which could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall).
• Check for bubbles in the wallpaper (a sign of delimitation or water intrusion)
2. Interior cleanliness of the unit-
• Look for water stains and discoloration on inside walls and around ceiling anywhere vents, skylights, windows, etc. exist.
• Push and prod with your hand on the inside walls for soft spots (which could indicate a water leak and a damaged or rotten interior wall).
• Check for bubbles in the wallpaper (a sign of delimitation or water intrusion)
3. Test appliance functions –
• lights
• fans
• refrigerator
• air conditioner
• heater
• water pump
• range hood
• stovetop
• oven (if equipped)
• microwave (if equipped)
• stereo (if equipped)
4. Lift System-
• Does the unit raise and lower properly
• Check the lift system for hydraulic leaks (puddle under the trailer)
• Check the lift cables to see if they are in good shape and not frayed
• Check the seal between the upper and lower body halves for tears or damage
5. fill the tanks to the top and check for leaks
6. Battery
7. Solar Panel (if equipped)

Be sure to watch the video series on Hi-Lo operation, found here:

If the unit doesn't have an owner's manual, you might find one in the library on this forum's home page. If you don't find a manual for an '89, a nearby year's manual will be just as good. There weren't usually any major changes year to year.

Post some pics as you're able and happy camping!

Default Thanks for the info.

Everything seems to be in working order, and for 500 bucks I m thinking I got a great deal. Surely an upgrade from the 1970 model kit camper we currently have. Also, it was bought from a friend that we camp with an I've seen what good care has been taken.

Default Soft spots under windows

We recommend that all windows be taken out and resealed on older trailers. Water leaks in the window and rots out the walls. This is very fixable if you are handy and want to spend the time and money. U-tube has a video on window removal and replacement. Many of us on the forum have to do this type of repairs. Enjoy your new toy. We are here to answer any questions you may have. I love my 1990 25ft. Classic. It is very sturdy and holds up in severe wind and rain.

Default Soft spots.

Thanks Sam. I plan to take on this project soon. Is the wall framing all metal? It looks as though the windows were resealed and the leak fixed, also the roof has been sealed yearly for the past 5 years that the previous owner has had it. If it is all metal, and no bad rust, does that make it an easier repair than wood framing?

Default soft spot repairs

When you remove your window you will be able to see the wall layers. This will tel you if you have wet walls. I have a 1990 Classic 25ft. We did extensive repairs for water damage. My framing in the walls was metal.
