New 208 owner

Hi, all. New member from the far west corner of Texas.

I just picked up a 208 (I know that now thanks to this site). It is a project that as far as I have determined to this point, needs roof leak repair, resulting water damage repair, a new toilet/shower/holding tank combo, lifting cable adjustments, all of the seat cushions replaced, and elimination of cat pee odor. I already downloaded a 1969 manual that a member graciously posted (thanks).

This may not sit well with the Hi-Lo purists, but I plan to cut the tongue off, remove the axles and place the remains onto a big truck. Hey, at least I started out with a semi-basket case.

VPed, actually in the late 50's or early 60's Hi Lo DID have a slide in that fit Dodge pick-ups. So your not tooo far off.

You should do a search for the Unimog Camper out of San Diego. They named it Thor. https://www.billcaid.com/2014/U500%20.../TripMain.html

They took a 2010 18ft Hi-Lo and mounted it on the back of a Mercedez Unimog chasis. They stopped by to show us at the Colorado Hi-Lo Rally.

Truck for Hi-Lo

I plan on putting it on the truck in the picture. I intend for it to slide in between the bed sides, as opposed to removing the existing bed like they did with the Unimog. So in effect, it is a Hi-Lo slide in camper for a truck. The bed is 20 feet long.

LOL! That should handle the weight- I think. :)

Hey All, check out pop up camper history, click on Hi Lo and see the advertisements. 1963 shows the 1/2 Dodge with a slide-in Hi Lo.
I agree will hilltool, that truck "might" handle your project Hi Lo! Best of luck and keep us posted.

I'll be looking for the finished product driving around town! :D
