New Owner Questions

I just bought a 2006 17' Hi-Lo from a member of this forum, who assured me that it was in excellent condition. They sent me pictures, but I don't think they were of the trailer I bought. My fault for trusting "seniors" who called it their "baby". That said, is the outside made of fiberglass, and is a crack easy to repair? It has 2 large holes in the air conditioner shroud..is there an outlet for parts that specializes in Hi-Lo? When I store it, shall I store it opened up or closed down...I live in an area with field mice, squirrels, raccoons? I would like to get a backup camera....do any of you have recommendations? Do any of you have a small generator, to save the battery when out camping? Will that work? Any recommendations?
Thanks for any advice you all can give me. (I'll probably have more questions, as I get into the operation of everything, and after I read the manual).

Hello,

That's a lot of questions in one paragraph.

Here is a link to the Hi-Lo brochures collection, click on 2000 then 2006. https://www.hilotrailer.com/home/then

The exterior is fiberglass and cracks can be repaired.

The A/C shroud is available from any RV dealer or online. You just have to match to what you have. Most components outside of the lift system and the frame and body are pretty much generic. An online search or Amazon will produce most of what you're looking for. Hi-Lo parts can be procured from JR Repair, Home - JR REPAIR

I recommend that you store the trailer in the down position to relieve strain from the lift system.

Rodents love to chew on things so remove anything that will tempt them. Food, paper, clothing, etc. Bounce dryer sheets and Irish Spring soap chunks placed everywhere work well to repel pests because they don't like strong scents.

I have no recommendations on back up cameras.

Many of us have small inverter generators like Honda or Yamaha. They work well if you just want to charge the battery and run small appliances. If you want to run an A/C or microwave etc. you will need a larger capacity generator.

I hope this has helped.

Welcome to the forum.

I don't have a back up camera on my HiLo. Do a search in this forum as others have installed a back up camera. Another reason to always store in the down position is because the weight of the snow can damage your roof. Brush the snow off when possible.

Generator & Solar panel kit

Hi,
I just picked up a 3500 Watt Super Quiet Inverter PREDATOR Generator and a
100 Watt Solar Panel Kit from Harbor Freight for very reasonable prices.

I have been wanting that generator for awhile now and just kept waiting till it went on sale. Even when not on sale it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the equivalent HONDA generator.

I've been using an Rear View Safety (RVS) system for years and on several Hi Los. Just over 180 degree view. If the car is not behind me, then they are in my mirrors.
Got them from amazon $196 prime.
Plenty of cable and pretty easy to install. All the cable is hidden in the frame of the Hi Lo. Basic tools and a step drill bit are required.
Works great, even going thru Atlanta, GA

Here's a good video for an inexpensive backup camera is you have a smart phone or a tablet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UIG-31UCFU

Sorry to hear..
Use a 50-100 watt solar panel with a solar charge controller to maintain charge on the battery. 200 watts if you want to use it, 300-350 if you want to run a lot of DC power and use it at the same time.
Get new AC shroud for about $100.
The siding is a composite of outer panel, foam and inner ply-wood panel. Outside can e fiberglass or other depending on year, yours is about the time they changed over I think. The front and back are fiberglass molded. Yes you can repair. Internet search that as you will need cloth and expoy for cracks, or just use Bondo for very minor dings.
