I don't think I could have used my awning with the broken fittings. The rear arm was hanging free from the top (no longer attached at the bottom end). It would not have been safe to travel with it...

Bruce, the hardware on the awnings is made of very brittle "pot" metal. I broke a couple of mine when I backed the trailer too close to a fence. Fortunately, I found replacements online.
