That's exactly what happened to my insulation, it turns to powder whenever you touch it. I had to remove some plywood inside the camper to splice into decent wiring and run a new pigtail.

I didn't have much luck, so I just wired mine with trailer wiring as the color codes were the same and shrink wrapped it. I use velcro to coil the wiring up when I'm towing the trailer in the down...
