Thanks for the link, byrdmeister. We're thinking we'll need to find one a little closer to home, hopefully within 6 hours of SoCal, but we'll see. Thanks!

finding a used HiLo

Perhaps someone that lives closer could check it out for you. Consider the possibility of paying a transport co. to bring it to you. Not as many HiLos for sale on the west coast.

A good idea to consider, Sam!

I did find this one for sale, about 3 hours from my location. I believe it's a 2001 22' Classic. The seller was asking $10K for awhile but recently lowered it to 8K. Any opinions on whether this is a fair price, keeping in mind that just about everything in California is overpriced! :(

The NADA guides are a little high. Best bet is to see what others are asking for the same model and negotiate from there.

2001 Hi Lo Price, 2001 Hi Lo Values & 2001 Hi Lo Specs | NADAguides

If it is in good condition I dont think that price is outrageous. It depends on how long you want to look and wait. It IS springtime----prices will be better in the fall after summer vacations. Look and see what other models of 22 ft rvs are selling for......then decide if you consider a hi-lo to be worth more or less.

NADA and other "book" values are always an interesting place to consider but I dont always agree with their "real world" prices, up or down. If you find one in good condition with everything working, good tires, good battereys, etc....then I might consider paying the higher end. For 8k I might request we drive it to an RV dealer and have them go over it really well-including bearings etc.

Great suggestions Rick and Ruben! I'm thinking a reasonable price for that particular unit I mentioned is closer to $6500. Of course, I haven't actually seen the unit yet. What type of framing do the 2001 Classic's have- wood?

Thanks,

campthewestcoast 05-07-2014 12:37 PM

I don't think the classics ever had wood framing, only the towlites.

hilltool 05-07-2014 05:01 PM

....and by 2001-the tow lites had metal framing.

OK, looked at the brochure for 2001 in the Resource Library and looks like the framing is tubular steel in the Classic.

Search Update

The unit that I thought was a 2001 is actually a 1999 22L Classic. We are planning to go look at the trailer next week. Any insight from late 90's Classic owners would be appreciated . . .

Thanks,

campthewestcoast 05-16-2014 12:38 PM

Greg,

Did you see the 22Ft at Vandy on Craigs list?

Please PM your email address.

Luckydog671 05-16-2014 01:31 PM

Yep, that's the one I'll be looking at! Turns out it's a 1999 Classic. It was originally listed at 10K, then reduced to 8K. The owner was not aware of the NADA guide at the time she reduced the price so I made her aware of it. If it checks out, I think I can get it in the 6K range.

Not sure how to do the PM thing . . .

I see you are located in Napa, campthewestcoast. Are there any local Hi-Lo clubs in California?

Thanks,

campthewestcoast 05-16-2014 02:20 PM

The nearest Hi-Lo club that I know of is Colorado.

campthewestcoast 05-16-2014 02:34 PM

Greg,

Just sent you a PM.

Thanks, Rick! Than one looks pretty clean but I think the wife is more interested in the newer models. We inspected a 1999 yesterday and there were some age-related issues that made her hesitant. Of course, newer means more $ :(

We live in Mesa, AZ and have a 2002, model 2602FB for sell for $7895. When we purchased in 2012 we replaced the mattress with a queen size pillow top mattress. We have decided to quit camping due to age and pulling vehicle[

Looks like a nice unit at great price but we have already made our purchase. Good luck with your sale!
