Default 1989 HiLo upper door

I have a 1989 HiLo Model 2289 and am in the need of a new upper door. Any ideas are welcome.

Hi and welcome! What's wrong with yours? Perhaps it could be fixed? It's rare to see one of these needed.

I suspect, to get a new one, you's need to buy it from J & R or Midget.

I moved your thread to a place where it might get better exposure.

I thought I might be able to fix it, but I've done quite a few repairs already and thought if someone had one ready to screw on, it would give me a break. Mine just needs the plywood paneling on the inside of the door replaced - veneer is broken and/or missing in parts.

However, and more urgently, I just tried to lower my HiLo for towing and it won't go down. The catch bar appears to be free and the raising pump works, but it is stuck in the full up position and evidently is not bleeding off the hydraulic pressure when I press the switch down. I don't have a manual so I'm really in the dark about what I should do. And, I'm a long way from a reasonable repair service. I'll post another new post with this issue.

Jack and Janet. I used the FAQ on the forum to find the problem to my lowering problem. When I saw the word "solenoid" I was pretty sure that was my problem. Having lived on the Oregon Coast for almost 50 years, I knew that solenoid's and Oregon Coast humidity are not a good mix. A gently tap on the solenoid with a pair of pliers and down came the top. So glad for this forum!

Glad you figured out the problem with the solenoid. I think a new upper door would be a bit pricey, but can see how the inside paneling could be replaced. I'm not aware of how thick it is, but probably not much more than 1/4", and possibly just a "door skin" thickness.

Default Door repair

DH had to rebuild the upper door on our 1990 25ft. Seems to be a common problem. You can do this repair!!

I had an accident a few years ago and the rv repair guy built a new one for me and it looks pretty good.

Default Thank you

Thanks to all for the supportive - "you can do it" - comments. You were right. I was able to disassemble, repair, and reassemble the door and it looks fine!

Good on you! I think there is no better feeling than the one you get when you fix something that's broken yourself!

Default Fix or repair upper door

I just found that the upper door on my 2203T is falling apart. The wood across the lower section is rotted.
Anyone have hints how that door is built, is there a wood frame around the perimeter with foam core below interior/exterior cladding?
Thanks
Tom
