ceiling/overhead bunk questions
 

Hello--

I am looking at purchasing a 1995 22" Fun Chaser, and am wondering about the overhead bunk's size and weight rating. My husband and I have been looking at a few different Hi-Lo (and other telescoping) models, and while we'd love something with a Queen bed, we can't seem to find many used around here (Seattle area).
Currently we have a conversion van with a double bed, but with two people it isn't the most spacious or comfortable.

I am very glad that I've found this forum, and I'm hoping that someone out there might have an answer. I've looked in the library and several threads to try and locate, but so far no luck. I appreciate any advice and/or feedback!

The beds are not standard sizes in the smaller trailers, at least the 2 that I have are not. People have taken the couch out and put a queen bed in, I think you will have to go to a bigger trailer to get a queen size bed as standard. When I bought my 2209 a fellow was selling a used one that the factory had removed the couch and replaced it with a queen bed. The 95 funchaser that you are looking the bed should come close to a queen size.
The rating of the bunk bed has been discussed many times, it varies from 250 to 350 lbs. It was really intended for children. Would have to measure one of mine for size, maybe some one else will know.

I just measured the bunk in my 2209 TowLite and it is roughly 81X46, Classic models may be different as they are 4 inches wider.

I believe the absolute maximum rating is 300 pounds, but judging from our own experience with our adult son, who is maybe 150 pounds, I don't think I would want to go much more than 200 pounds. The bunk does allot of creaking and flexing when he is on it. The size is about what a 3/4 size bed would be, somewhere between a twin and a full bed, 45" x 80". I just ran out to measure it.

Thank you to you both for your quick replies, and for taking the time and trouble to go measure your bunks! That really helps me out a lot, as it tells me that it wouldn't hold me and hubby :p. As it turns out, this unit that I am looking at doesn't have the overhead bunk, so your comments really allow me to entertain it--I thought that without the overhead bunk we wouldn't have enough room, but given the ideas of modification to a queen up front I changes the playing field.

On the video post, he states that the overhead bunk is rated at 350 Lbs.

on my 22l, the sofa converts to a full size bed, at least thats the size of the fitted sheet that i put on it is, and the fold down bunk is just a hare smaller

My 26RD has two couches facing each other that form a residential size queen bed, it's one of the many many reasons that we picked this trailer.
It uses a queen sheet from your house, and it is extremely comfortable. The previous owner gave us a 3" memory foam mattress that we don't use, it's better without it but we like a firmer mattress.
