Hi Lo Classic Vs. Towlite?
 

My husband and I are here going through the brochures. We looked at Hi Lo about 12 years ago but our tow vehicle wouldn't pull one. At that time, the line between Towlite and the Classic Hi-Lo was very clear to us but now, we can't figure out what we are looking at. My husband likes the storage bins along the bottom of the frame and thinks that is exclusive to the Classic. We just joined a couple of days ago so haven't went through all the info yet. We are anxious to decide which unit we want to try to locate so any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you. Cathy

Welcome to the forum - you'll find all sorts of helpful advice here.

My 2007 17' Towlite has the lower outside storage bins you mentioned, 4 of them. They are very handy for storing small propane bottles, chocks, etc.

The storage bins were optional on Towlites, maybe not on all years. Consult the options lists on the brochures. I think most of them came through with them included.

HiLo is out of business. Check the reference library for brochures. The newer models of HiLo came with a H designation. They are a combination of a Classic and a Towlite. What is your tow vehicle?

You can save room in the storage bays by storing the small propane tanks with the propane tanks for the trailer. I lift my tank cover up and stack two 1 pound propane bottles in between the two 30# tanks on the front side. The curvature of the big tanks makes a secure place to store them. The fiberglass tank cover holds them in place. Just a thought..............

We would be towing with a 1993 Ford Club Wagon HD, towing capacity of 5500 lbs. We have towed other trailers with the van and want to keep the weight down. We have towed in the mountains and realize the power issue. We considered getting a different tow vehicle but decided to rehab the Ford since we run debt-free. I know that the tow capacity is limiting but we have been able to live with that.

Finding a HiLo
 

You should be able to find a towlite or H designation HiLo that you can tow. It is good you are experienced with towing.

The max length that you would want to tow in my opinion is a 22 ft Hi-Lo.

We are watching the weight pretty close and know it is best to keep below what the vehicle will actually tow. With the TT, we used an Equalizer hitch and it towed well at least on flatter surfaces but I don't care much for being in the mountains or hilly country anyway.
