Default Weight on a 1969 16' HiLo?

We are hoping to purchase one tomorrow, pending finding out the weight, which I can't seem to find anywhere? Right now our towing vehicle is a Subaru Outback with a towing capacity of 2700, we hope to purchase a truck with more towing capacity in the near future. Any help is much appreciated!!

The information you need should be in the manual on page 17 (last page) and says it weighs about 2000 +- empty. Not sure what you have in it extra, but your forester should get you home... the shorter the distance the better... Not sure what kind of trailer I would be comfortable hauling with a forester... but it's under the 2700 limit of your car.

It would be like me hooking up my 22' to my S-10...

I think they said "outback" which is a bit longer than the Forester and a lower center of gravity. But, you may be right in that I may be splitting hairs. I would think a weight distribution hitch would be critical as well as a heftier TV in the very near future.

Thanks!! Yes, it is an Outback which is definitely larger than a Forrester. But I think we will definitely look into a DH regardless. And dreaming of a new truck in the meantime

The 16' turned out to be a 20' and more than we should have been towing, but we did it anyway Managed to make it all the way back home (should have been a 4 hr. return trip, turned into 6+, in the stifling heat), no DH, no tags, one working light, past cops and traffic, maneuver into tiny back driveway, play h*** trying to get it off the hitch and in the process managed to break a window. I need a dramamine from the swaying, a valium from the total experience, and a bottle of wine just because! This thing ain't moving til we get the right vehicle and a DH! but it's ours and it's home!

Default Getting your HiLo home

What an adventure!! My luck I would have stopped by the police and given a $200.00 ticket. The window can be taken out and brought to a glass shop for repair. We also broke a window on our HiLo when I got dh too close to the fence. We have since reconfigured our fence gates and the backing is much better. Check with a local RV place for a recomendation for a glass shop. Have fun with your new toy, cleaning and checking out all the systems. Several of our member have or have owned units in your vintage.

That a way!

They (hi-los) are a bit seductive for some reason-----and tend to make you ignore the negatives, but that is the fun in being seduced. Lots of help and expert advise on this forum so I am sure you will be checking back in. Good luck.

Congrats!

Keep in mind that a tarp may build up condensation under it, potentionally causing damage. Best bet is to invest in a good RV cover. Enjoy that "new to you" Hi-Lo.
