1991 Hi-Lo with extensive water damage
 

I need a lot of guidance as to if it's worth fixing. I believe at least one whole wall will need to be replaced inside and out. I have attached several pictures.

Vickie, hi and welcome. For some reason, your pictures did not get posted. In the Advanced reply setting, click on "Manage Attachments". That will open a dialog box where you "Browse" for a picture file (.jpg), click on the file(s) you want and then click the "Upload" button in that dialog. This should insert a thumbnail for each picture you've selected in your reply that when clicked will expand to full size when viewed by others.

Let me know if my instructions are not clear.

Your repairs look like what DH and I had to repair on our 1990 25ft. Classic. We didn't realize as the second owner that all the windows needed to be taken out and resealed. It took us many hrs. to do the repairs and about $1000.00 in parts. Only you can decide if it is worth your time and $ and effort. Are you handy? If you decide to repair i can explain how to do the repairs. From the pictures it looks like you have a Towlite with aluminum siding.

Vickie, those pictures were posted perfectly. As sam said, only YOU can decide if the repair is worth the effort, and, if you are up to the task.

The degradation looks worse than it probably is. Yes, you will have to replace the rotted wood and insulation, but the rusty frame members are probably salvageable. They can be sanded and then painted with rust neutralizer and they will probably do fine.

The exterior siding can be taken off and reattached, I think.

You don't have to use the same materials as HiLo did in the original design when you replace wood and insulation. Just find stuff that works. Additionally, you can reinforce (add to) the metal framing if you think that would be a good idea.

You'll probably need to replace the bulb seal along the lower edge of the top on that side, and there are other ways to provide a seal besides using the OEM bulb seal. One member at least has used a "garage door sweep".

Some of the project might require more physical strength than you have. A strong friend would be handy in that case.

You'll get a better idea what you are facing, once you start the demolition process.

Jack is right. I could never have restored our HiLo without the help of DH. I have had three hand surgeries and just don't have the strength in my hands. Let us know what you decide.

I had to do a lot of repair work, roof work, and framework, insulation on my 1994 Hilo and spent about $1000. but mine was not near that bad. But I would not want to do it again. Unless had a big garage and a lot of time. Lots of work. Whatever you decide, Good luck.

These projects 'can' be done. As others have said, it is all about what you feel like you can conquer. I knew that I had time if I took it slow, and I also knew that I wasn't going to go out and get a trailer if I didn't work on this one. It did take time (a lot of active work on nice weekends and then odds and ends that are ongoing like on any old trailer or car), but it is well used now and I'm glad I did it.

Thanks to all of you who replied but I now know I do not have the time, resources or money to do this, especially by myself. I've found mold and constant issues with mildew smell that is now making me and my cat sick. I need to find somewhere to sell it and find another one as quickly as possible for my physical and mental well being. It's way more work than I can handle. Question is do I try and sell it or just sell it for scrap. Neither I can obviously do until I find another camper as this is my home and my current vehicle has to be able to tow it.

Try selling it on the forum.
 

Maybe someone would like to fix it up. Someone might buy it to resell parts. Best of luck finding another camper. Keep us posted.

Would it be possible to get some overall photos of the unit (inside and out)? I am certain someone would be interested in restoring this unit. As you are likely aware, there is a market for Hi-Lo trailers in any condition and those interested in them will travel large distances to acquire one. I personally drove over 8 hours one way for mine.

I would suggest once you determine if you are going to sell that you post photos and price here. The interest may surprise you!
