Default 77 Hi-Lo Hydraulic lift and water tank

Hi,

I cannot get my HiLo to lower. It will lower about half way down and then stop. I do not see any obstructions. It has been in the up position for quite a while. What could be the problem?

Also, I need a new fresh water tank. My tank has rusted through. Any suggestion on where to get a new tank?

Thanks so much!

Something must be binding if you can't lower it. Have you inspected the guide blocks that follow the rails on the lower half? Is the guide rod underneath lubricated, not bent and clean? Is the top half level when it is raised? Is the trailer leveled? Is the bottom half distorted?

I thought all the tanks were plastic. You should be able to get a new plastic one from most any RV supply company. Here's a link to some at Camping World: Replacement Tanks - Product - Camping World, but I'd shop around.

Not sure where your located at, Look at RV salvage yards(do a google search) .I know of one ;RV doctor in sacramento,CA. Take the old tank with you to match it.

Jack,

Thanks so much. I have checked everything, but still no luck. I have just replaced the solenoid switch and wonder if that could be the problem. Also, my water tank is a round metal tank in a '77 - 22 ft. HiLo. I have not been able to locate one, but would like to replace with a plastic one. Again, thanks.

Can you tell where it's "hanging up"? I can't imagine how the solenoid switch would be the problem if it moves down part way. It sounds to me like something is physically "catching" the top on the way down.

I think as far as your water tank is concerned, it would be best to get the old one out as campthewest suggested, then try to match the shape and size if only a round one will fit. The one in my trailer is rectangular.

Good luck on this!

Have you tried lowering the top using the manual lowering valve on the hydraulic pump? If you open this valve and the top still hangs up then you have ruled out the solenoid valve as the problem. Does the top hang up in the same spot each time? As Jack indicated make sure the guide rod on the Hyd cylinder is clean, not bent and lubed. Raise the top and inspect all of the lifting cables to see if one has a bunch of wire strands broken and bunched up and then hanging up on a pulley and pulley guide. Look for a broken pulley. Let us know what you find. Good luck.
