Advice on 1983 Hi Lo with Pics
 

I have an appointment tomorrow to look at a 1983 Hi LO Model 2583L on an RV lot. The salesman sent me a couple of pictures of what damage he could see. After looking at the pictures, I am not for sure if the price fits the work that needs to be done.

After reading a lot of the posts on here and with the vast amount of knowledge you guys have, what do you think? They are asking $1895.

Folks are not usually anxious, here, to give advice on what to pay for trailers. I would google Hi-Los for sale and see what you come up with around the country as comparisons. That said- you are looking at serious water and roof damage, there, at the least. Do you like big projects sand are you good at them because you would have to tear out that ceiling and, likely, the walls ( my guess is water got into the walls, as well.)? I would be surprised if a dealer gave more than 500.00 for that on trade and that could be high- but who knows without seeing the rest of it. Myself, I would stay away from it at that price. You can find nice units for 5k and even a bit less if you are patient- and it wouldn't take much to end up putting 3k in it from just what I can see.

I do appreciate any advice. I was thinking the same thing, it is just nice to hear from someone that knows these trailers better than I do.

It does seem like a lot of work, and just having surgery I do not know if I can handle all of that work right now.

If I was you, I would go to the dealer, and check it out by touching the water damaged area, if it soft only in that part, then it is easy repair, and offer them $1300.

I paid $1100 for my 93 that had similar damage but had been mostly torn apart so you could see it. There were many others interested in it at that price, just the frame, axles, wheels tires, and appliances are worth $1000. I did mine as cheap as possible and did all the work myself spending only a few hundred.

You have my permission to run as fast as you can away from this sorry HiLo. Especially since you have had some surgery. It would require a great deal of time and $ to get this unit campable. Be patient something better will come along. This advice comes from someone who has done extensive wall repair after many years of ownership. Check out this post of our repairs. 4-6-2014 Wall repair. We didn't have any roof/ceiling damage.

My wife and I decided not to drive 4 hours to look at this damage. We were very lucky i finding a 1973 Model 2073 close to home, (less than an hour drive).

We will be picking it up next week and I am very excited to finally own my first camper. We used the checklist of things we found on this site to go over the trailer and was able to pick it up a lot cheaper than this dealer was asking.

Excellent! When I got my trailer, I had given up for a little over a year looking. I decided one day to just look again, and (hi) lo and behold, there it was, not even 30 miles away from me. Sometimes patience pays off.

LOVE THAT SPIRIT ! ! ! Best of luck with your acquisition. Once completed you'll know it's yours. Took me four years to find the right one. Found it right here on the forum and drove 1400 miles round trip to get it with assist from forum members. Trust me, it was worth it! :):):)

I can speak from experience..my hi lo had some minor delam and water damage and the price to fix was EXPENSIVE! I knew what i was getting into before hand, so be wary!
