Bike Rack

Seeing how others do something always helps me … so I figured I would post one of my own. I just installed a new bike rack on my 2708T unit and thought I would share how I did it with the group. The neat thing is that the bike rack is interchangeable between my camper and tow vehicle incase we ever want to transport the bikes somewhere once we get to the camp site. The bike rack is a Swagman XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount and I ordered it from Amazon.com (even got free shipping). I also ordered an 18” receiver tube (which we cut to the length we needed) and all that was left was some welding and painting.

I cut a hold through the camper’s bumper and ran the receiver tube through and welded it to the back frame member and also both sides of the bumper. Since the sewer hose storage length in the camper bumper is now divided in half by the receiver tube, I installed a larger 4” square PVC tube right below the camper bumper where I now store the sewer hoses. The bike rack is high enough off the ground that I do not need to worry about dragging it when I go over grade changes leaving parking lots and can also leave the bikes on the rack if we don’t need them at a particular camp site.

Here are some pictures showing what the finished product looks like.

On the 2708T unit the spare tire is mounted underneath the camper towards the back.

Very nice work indeed! I've never seen 4" square PVC. Where did you find it?

Thanks for the idea's. My issue is the spare mounted on the rear and the plastic rear :confused:cover, not square stock steel I see in the photo. I picked up a length of 2" alum. angle that I can use as a frame to mount a hitch if I can just figure out how to get the bikes past the spare.:confused

Looks really good, there is enough room to make the reciever a little shorter and give it more tinsel strength. Good job sir.
