Black Tank question

From what I've read (haven't been camping yet), after dumping the black tank you should stick a spraying wand down the toilet to help clean residue. What's the best procedure? If the dump station is close, is it alright to drive to it with the top up? Or do you put it down, drive to the dump station, put the top back up and dump? Also, I understand the black tank should be filled to two thirds before dumping. What steps do you take? Do you run a hose inside or fill it from the shower? Any clues as to these procedures would be appreciated!
Thanks!

When you move the hi-lo trailer, it should always be lowered. At the dump station, raise the top to spray out the black tank. I try to fill the black tank at the campsite with the shower hose/head before heading to the dump station. Sometimes its easier to rinse the black tank with a bucket of water.

Use a seperate garden hose for cleaning the tanks. Do not use your white water hoses for doing this.

There is an AWESOME mod to make to your blackwater tank, that many newer RV's have, and it is a Rinse connection. YOu have to drill holes and and seal a connection into the black tank and run a hose from there to where you hook your dump hose. but once you do it, then you can use the rinse hose at dump station to rinse/fill black tanks without having to take a hose inside the camper and doing this manually.

Watch an example movie.

Yah, I was glad the video was an easy find, my dad's newer RV has that just like the video, almost of course... His tanks arent right there at the access hole/opening so the MFG ran a hose to that part the stuck into the black water tank. I too will do this mod soon.

I installed this type sprayer on both my black & gray water tanks a few years back. I then mounted a brass "y" fitting at the access door opening where I hook up my sewer hose. I connect a hose to the "Y" and spray the tanks. The "y" has 2 levers that turn each side off or on. I open the gray tank side and spray it. Then I close that lever and open the other lever to spray my black tank. This set up gives me one hose connection and the capability of spraying both tanks.
