First questions... - Hi-Lo camper travel trailer forum

Without an owner's manual, I am sure I will have lots of questons regarding my new to me '87 FunChaser.

So far, not much response on here.

First question: Does ANYONE have a way of getting owner's manuals?

Second question: Can anyone videotape putting the awning down? I had a brand new Minnie Winnie motorhome, and had no problems with the awning, but this thing looks confusing!!

I'm attaching a photo of it. I don't even know where to begin. Even just a typed instruction would be greatly appreciated!!!

You may have already seen this but in the reference library there is a manual for a 1990 Hilo. Things don't change much from year to year and you should be able to extract a lot of info from this manual. http://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f49/...-classic-2016/ The appliances have their own manuals separate from the trailer manual. Many of them are listed in the library also.

Can't help you with the awning, I haven't operated one like that.

Hang in there, someone will come along with some info.

Try this site- download some of the pdfs and see if it is what you have. Seems about the right year......regardless of the vehicle.

the bottom pic is a hi lo camper, its not the clearest pic. When we bought our camper, we were lucky the couple that sold it, spent over an hour showing us everything that we needed to know to operate our hi lo, and believe me one demo like that worth 10 manual, they did give us the original manuals also. if you can't find any document, search youtube, for camper awning operation, or if you have someone to assist you, take the awning off from it's rolled position and take some more pics, but I am sure at this stage you will see how the pieces work.

The awning does not look like any I have seen on a HiLo. It may have been replaced. As Rich said get the manufacture name and model number off of the awning and other appliances, google that manufacture and with the model # you can find the owners and parts manuals and download them. If you can't figure out how to operate the awning, take the HiLo to a camping world store or other RV dealership and see if they will help you. Request here on the forum to see if there is a HiLo owner near you that could give you some help with your problems. Good luck.

This awning looks similar to the one that I had on a mini motorhome many years ago. Unfortunately, I cannot remember who made it.

do you have a rv dealership of any type near your home? they would be able to show and demonstrate how to work the awning, experiance is the best manual. I have not seen this type of awning, but looks like it is sealed from the elements

after looking at the pic.
Do you have a crank to lower and raise the awning?
If so, put the crank end into the loop and turn while manually supporting/helping the awning fabric unroll. Clockwise tightens and counter opens.
The parts I see in the pic are the legs to the awning. They will be folded out after awning is completely open and extended to mounting pads that are attached to the bottom portion of the trlr.
This will be a 2 man job until you get the hang of it, so you don't tweak something. Do this slowly and with no binds to the mechanisms.
My 1985 hi lo awning is similar and has old plastic parts that will snap if you look at them incorrectly. So NO HARD PULLING AND PUSHING! Mine has a clip lock mechanism on both ends that need to be unlocked before it is opened.

Well, the awning is by Capri. Not sure much else. I took more photos and uploaded them to my Shutterfly site.
I've googled Capri Awnings but haven't found instructions yet.

Hi Steve. No crank. Or pole. I'll prob wait till I'm heading out camping and stop at CW on the way to see if they can help. Unless I can do it sooner.

In the mid-80s owned a 1970s mini motorhome that had a similar looking awning. As I recall there was no crank. I had to open the container, grab the end of the fabric and pull it out against the tension. The spring-loaded roller for the fabric was attached to the motorhome's body. This is different than most awning's today, where the roller is attached to the arms. What I don't remember anymore is how the support arms worked.

If I were you, I'd get a ladder and start playing with it. I'm sure that you will discover how it works in short order.

I found a bunch of parts in the outside back box area. There IS some type of crank in there. So, I'll play around with it this weekend.

My first camping trip is on May 10th!!

The crank may be for the stabilizer jacks under the trailer or if you have a power tongue jack it could be the backup crank for it.
