First trip is over
 

Made it back from our first trip. All went well with only minor problems. I can fix these over the winter and get the outside painted and be ready to roll again in the spring. Here are some pics!

Went to an old pioneer village in Woodville, Texas while we were there.

Even in a pioneer village my girl can't stop shoe shopping and I can't stay out of jail!

Thanks Rich. Those pics were taken Sunday afternoon after most people packed up and left. But this park has over 200 campsites so a spot is almost always available.

What is the location of the first series of shots. Looks like a nice area and we will be in Tx next year.

Ren, that is Martin Dies Jr. State Park between Woodville and Jasper, Texas. East Texas not far from Louisiana. Texas has a very diverse terrain as it is very large and has many state parks throughout. If you decide where you are headed in Texas or what you would like to see I can give you some info on what to expect. My favorite part of Texas is the Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin. Lovely country and lots to do there.

Misfit, I know this is off topic, but I'm glad there is something in Texas named for Sam Rayburn. I grew up watching Mr. Rayburn (with that shiny bald head) bring that gavel down many times on tv as Speaker of the House. According to an older relative of mine, Deke DeLoach (passed away at age 92 about two years ago), who was a friend of former President Lyndon Johnson, Mr. Sam and Pres. Johnson were responsible for transforming the hill country of Texas to the beautiful place it is today; they first had to get electricity to that area. Mr. Deke said Pres. Johnson grew up in the hill country without electricity, and Mr. Sam as a mentor was responsible for his success in Texas politics.

There is a lot here named after both men. LBJ was responsible for the naming of the dam and dedicated it himself in 1965. Back in April I vacationed in the hill country and went to the LBJ ranch outside of Fredricksburg, Texas and also stayed at Pedernales Falls State Park which was one of LBJs favorites. The good ole days when politicians actually worked together to get something done in this country.
