Furnace question
 

I recently bought a 1999 21' Towlight and I will be taking it to Yellowstone this July. I am wondering if the furnace will be sufficient for the night time temperatures that average in the upper 40's? Can you estimate how much propane it uses or how long it would last on a 15lb tank? Thanks.

Honestly, I doubt you will need much heating overnight there in July. However, we've used our furnace now and then and it seems to be pretty frugal on propane usage. My trailer has two-20# tanks, does yours have only one, at 15#? We use propane for the refrigerator, hot water heater, some cooking inside (but most is done outside on a propane grill), and, occasionally the furnace to take the chill off in the morning. This has carried us through two weeks without going through more than one tank.

I wouldn't need a furnace for upper 40's, body heat in the small trailer would be plenty warm. But that's just me. Maybe just fire up the stove for a few minutes if anything. Warm up that coffee water :)

It just had one 15# tank on it when I bought it. I plan on putting another 15# tank on also because they are easy to find "swap outs" at places like Walmart, etc. I just wanted to get some variety of opinions from the forum about the efficiency of the furnace and your experiences. There is no substitute for experience!

Well in my experience and in general, the only thing that will drain a propane tank faster than a furnace is a generator running the A/C. You might be surprised at how quickly your 15# tank empties. I run 2 30# tanks and almost never run the furnace.

Make sure you have your vent cracked open anytime you have the stove/oven lit up and cooking.

We have a 1990 model and we did a couple of winter nights ( late December) in North Texas and our optional electric heat thru our A/C was more than enough. yes, you have to be somewhere with electric hookups. We have also used our propane "central" heat and it works great with thermostat set at 65 for night time sleeping. Did not notice it staying on constantly nor was there any big drain on my propane. We have not tried over 2 or 3 days out during winter.

We camp in Yellowstone in a 17' HiLo and for 7 nights, we usually use about 15 gal.
That is at the end of August though.
