I load mine into the back of our truck when we go to the boondocks.

Ok with the pick up but what about people with SUV's ??? I don't want to put it in side my SUV because of the fumes ... anyone else with an SUV ??? Is there enough room on the outside of the trailer somewhere ??? I do not own a Hi-Lo yet but will soon and trying to think all these things through ... going to look at a 2003 27' Classic model ...

There not anyplace on the outside to mount one safely. There is no room on the front and you would have to fabricate an extension on the frame to mount on the rear, then you would be reducing the tongue weight. What size is the generator. I have a small 900 watt Yamaha that will store in a Rubbermaid bin that I keep in the pickup bed.

I am buying a Yamaha 2000 ??? small quiet one ... the Rubbermaid bin sounds like an idea ... would keep fumes down and I could put that inside the camper door last when closed, of course strapping it down somehow ...

I suspect the Yamaha may have a gas cap similar to what I have on a Honda generator. It has an "OFF" and and "ON" position. In OFF, the system is sealed and gas does not seem to vent or spill. I bet you could put it in your tow vehicle. Like others with pickups, I put mine in the bed and the truck has a cap, so the space is not really "open". And, modern gas cans seem to have a pretty good seal too. Driving with a full tank and full cans has caused no worries.

When we're camping and leave the site, I always put the generator just inside the door of the HiLo to keep it from being liberated. I've never smelled any gas fumes at all in the trailer upon return.

Jack is correct. The Yamaha should have the sealing gas cap, as does my generator, and fumes should not be an issue. I'm not sure if the 2000 would fit in a standard Rubbermaid bin, but you may want to check Home Depot. I got a larger one that I keep the Weber Baby Q grill in. The nice thing with the bins are that you can pile things on top of them without damaging the generator or the grill, and conversely what is piled on top.

I put my Honda 2000 in the back of the SUV, as say above with gas cap in off position, we get no fumes.
